Aircraft that make your jaw drop!

I think if I could fly just one jet (just accept the hypothetical please) It would be the F-16. Maybe the F-22 would be a more fun experience but, The F-16 just seems like a race bike with wings. Anyone with real experience go ahead and change my mind.

Being an ADV/Dual Sport guy, I'd go with an OV-10 or A-10. Both seem like fun flying, down low, and in service of the infantry, which because of bad eyesight, ended up being my job instead of flying when I was in uniform.

The first time I sat in an F-16 was weird. You sit high in the cockpit, and lean back so far that the aircraft disappears from your vision. You really have to strain to sit up to turn around just to get a glimpse of any part of the aircraft, and even then it's just the last foot or two of the wing and missile station. I can't imagine what it's like under g.

My choice would be the F-22 because of its post-stall abilities.

^ the jet disappearing is a big part of the draw. I have heard that before. I put the F-22 as a second choice because Acrobatically, what can touch it? Feeling like I’m being hurled through space at ludicrous speed with nothing between me and the ground, F-16?

Speaking jets only. Pistons gotta be a different vibe.

I'm going out on a limb here and say the Phantom's throttles are pushed all the way forward and in burner (looking at the nozzles), and the Eagle driver is pulling his back trying not to pull abreast / ahead.

Appears to be the truth.

Why would they go do laps for 2 1/2 hours if they were planned in the show? Their time over the bay was brief- 5 minutes.

I'm sure of it. Even if the F-4 was no slouch in the power department.

I just came from the city. Fog had the last say over today's airshow...the F-35 demo did happen, though and one lone Blue Angel flew several low passes. Hopefully this weekend will yield better weather.

Oh, and this...

I had to look it up.
The F-4E J-79s had 11,870lbs of thrust in military power and 17,900lbs in burner. Empty weight is about 30,000lbs
The F-15 F-100s had 14,670 in military and 23,000 - 25,000 in burner. Empty weight is 27,000lbs.

They may have used it a check ride / training flight, or a maintenance flight to justify the cost.

I saw videos of the Thursday practice. They had 3(!) F models in practice. I've never seen that before. I'm guessing that they are exposing next years team members to the demo.
