Airsoft

Does it hurt when you get hit?

No more than paintball. It's more of a sting than the whack of a paintball. And with the FPS limits established in the Bay Area it's not likely to cause any blood blisters. The worst injuries I've seen in airsoft were chipped teeth

Isn't the range on the airsoft very limited? I used to have a gas and spring pistol, seems like the max distance was about 50 feet?

Stock AEGs will easily range 100 feet. Upgraded, 150+ feet. Sniper rifles are capable of over 200. Not great but certainly no worse than paintball.

Okay, okay... I see goggles and vests. Are vests really necessary or are they mostly for show? What's the closest range you are allowed to shoot some one? Get sprayed?

What you see in the pictures are Load Bearing Equipment/Vests and are primarily used to carry spare magazines, batteries, BBs, food, water, etc. It's not there to provide any sort of armor.

The agreed upon "Minimum Engagement Distance" in the Bay Area is about 25 feet. Within 25 feet you can either draw and shoot him with your sidearm, surrender your opponent (only if it's a complete surprise), or use the parlay rule which requires both players to walk back 100 feet and re-engage. Rules vary but most teams play by those rules.

Shooting somebody point-blank will guarantee that you'll get blacklisted from games, and with the airsoft community being very tight-knit, that's almost a ban from playing airsoft. That and cheating are sins in this sport that relies on an extreme honor code and high levels of sportsmanship.

hehe cheating....is that like autoaim?.....wall hack?.....also in paintball when u get hit its obvious (most of the time but people do wipe) so how does airsoft go?

Can I play? I have a Marui SD5 and some gas pistols. But my SD5 and USP are broken. I need help!

The honor system. That's what sets us apart from paintball. If you feel yourself get hit, you take yourself out of the game. If your name comes up with the phrase "I swear I hit that guy" too many times and we see a pattern you will not be made welcome at local fields. No referees, no judges, just the ever-present threat that if you're ever caught cheating you'll never be able to play airsoft again.

Paintball is a testament to the fact that no matter how well a marking system (MILES/simunition/laser) works, people can and do cheat. Airsoft does away with marking systems, period, and instead addresses and confronts the cheating issue directly. It's not flawless, but cheating has never been a problem with airsoft, especially if you play with a regular group of players and trust has been established.

Upcoming Games:

Unfortunately I've got too many commitments this month to attend any games but if any of you are willing to check any of these games out yourselves I'd be glad to pave your way and guide you along. Just PM me.

Sunday, December 7, 2003:
Mike Force Airsoft Recondo School
Location: Moss Landing, CA
Cost: ?
Contact: kingsensei@aol.com
Notes: I don't recommend this to newbies. It's more training that it is game, and I'm not a big fan of the instructor.

Saturday, December 20, 2003:
Cimmerian's Op: Grand Slam
Location: Alta, CA (off I80 in the Sierra Nevadas)
Cost: $10 (?)
Contact: OP-Registration@cimmerians.org
Notes: More of a WW2 re-enactment than a modern combat simulation so the use of WW2 guns and equipment is highly encouraged (read: required). It's a long drive so you might be better off with the next game

Saturday, December 20, 2003:
GunKulture & DynamicAirsoft
Location: Santa Cruz Mountains (Hwy 17 and off Summit Rd.)
Cost: $25
Contact: TBA
Notes: Highly recommended for newbies since they have a lot of experience dealing with first-timers. My friend's shop sponsors this game so he'll be on-hand to assist, sell equipment and rent guns. It's a relatively short drive from San Jose, about 30 minutes.

Weekend, January 23-25, 2004:
Cimmerian's Op: Delta Thunder 3
Location: Stockton, CA (on an island in the Delta)
Cost: $175
Contact: OPREG_DT3@cimmerians.org
Notes: THE most highly sought-after game every year. I was in the first two Ops and it's a blast, the riverine pictures you see above are from this game. The only drawback is the cost and the fact that it's a weekend commitment. Also it's limited to 50 players and with the demand I think it might already be full.

Alan, thanks for the information. Much appreciated!

airsoft my ass, thats more like air-hard! them there guns r real!

I was wondering how the whole being out thing works with air soft. Shooting a light plastic bb at another person would be hard to feel at longer distances. I know from paintball I have been tagged at very long distances from arching the paint.

Where is the local airsoft shops?

ey is it true that the guns they sell in the US have red tips on them? if so, are they easily removable (so we can get shot by cops passing by our play spot)

It's necessary for the guns to have the red tip in order to make it through customs, so yes, most of the shops sell them that way. Removable? Yes. Legal to do so? According to DOT: not if you want to transport your guns. Do most players remove them? Yes. Myself included.

I don't believe a 1" strip of red on my barrel will keep me from getting shot by the popo. Hell, they've killed kid's carrying super-soakers. If they see my 220-lb ass, dressed in full camo, clad in LBEs, looking like a Rambo 4 extra and carrying an assault rifle, they're not going to think twice about dropping me. :laughing

Trust me, you'll know. Think .20gram BB traveling at 350fps. Multiply by 30-50 times which is about what a full-auto burst from me will yield.

bit o' self advertisment here but getting out of airsoft for now (not enough time and out of shape :laughing) so my aeg's are for sale. Both are fairly good for beginners tho they will definitely lack in the fps department. I think the prices are pretty good, but willing to listen to offers

bang bang
