Anyone rocking an Alienware laptop since Dell took over? We use a couple older ones at work. Those "pre-dell" systems seem to have made it through a couple Trashcanistan trips without any major issues (yay, nylons).

Ima looking at the M17x with some tasty upgrades. I need some reliable, durable high speed goodness so that I don't off myself because of boredom while i'm outta town.

I was considering some toughbooks but after I messed around with them I wasn't super impressed.

Anyone know if its good bang bang bang for teh bucks?

Gracias in advanciadado,

Oz

I don't have any experience with current Alienware laptops, but I know that the older ones used desktop components in order to get the speed, but tended to run pretty hot and got horrible battery life. I don't know if that's still the case, but that's always been something that turned me off from them.

If I were going to Craptanistan for awhile, I'd choose a business-class notebook designed for reliability/longevity/usability over a gaming notebook designed to win benchmarking contests. In 17", these would be my first three choices:

1: HP 8730W

2: Dell M6400

3: Lenovo W700

They don't have as much graphics horsepower as a full-bore m17x, but they are still very high end and fast enough for anything. If you've got the cash, make sure you take a look at the HP's Dreamcolor or the Dell's RGB LED screens - they're the shiznit.

Schweet thanks guys. :thumbup

I work for a technology reseller and we work with the big three of laptops. The Dell M's have seemed to be the best for long use and actually traveling with it. I Just don't know what kind of conditions you will actually be going into with it, but it will last waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than a consumer grade machine
