Alta Redshift MX Second Impressions

Butch, you are a MUCH better rep than the online folks at Alta or whatever dealer they might of forwarded my inquiry to. I submitted for a test ride from the nearest dealer. Not a peep and it's been weeks. And no response in regards to them filing with the central valley air pollution folks for the rebate incentive. THEY should be hooking you up with the 2018 MXR for FREE or at cost just because you drive inquiries and sales with your hands on generosity.

thanks but i think they are just trying to make the company sucessful...

And the bike is sooo easy to ride that it give me a huge smile to see others check it out. Folks are generally amazed. Plus I get to ride somebody's ICE bike, which is kinda shitty by comparism.

Big fun.

Hi KooLaid, you're right that Butch is worth his weight in gold. Sorry about the response on the demos - it's a new process for nearly all of our dealers and they're still figuring out how to actually follow up on all of the requests they're getting. I think the backlog is like 1300 requests across the country right now... lots of demand is a good thing I guess!

On the central valley air rebate, unfortunately, they were out of money as of last year, so there was no reason for us to apply for it. The $900 from CVRP *does* apply to our EX and SM in CA though.

Thanks as always, Butch, for being such a great supporter. While we may seem like a big operation, you've seen how lean the team here is.

We've built our company with 1/3rd of the funding of the next closest competitor, and 1/10th of companies like Gogoro. That's meant making really careful decisions that prioritized getting the product right so that we could spend less on sales and marketing. THAT has meant a really small sales and marketing team to then field all of the resulting interest. We're ramping that up continuously and it will only get better. I hope everyone bears with us on that.

Whoops, Marc beat me to the punch. One more thing to add (and take everything I say with a grain of salt, because I'm just a lowly engineer here :laughing)...

KooLaid - Like Marc mentioned, our team is working hard on getting demos set up for everyone on the list. However, you can often jump to the front of the line by reaching out directly to one of our dealers - here's the list: altamotors.co/find-a-dealer/. If you're in central valley, you might be close to the Braap Shop in Modesto. Try giving them a call to see if they can get you set up!

Thank you. I'll reach out to you. Can only ride during weekends

Saturday Hollister, Vintage lot. There is a HHORA meeting at 10 (I think) that i want to drop in on)

The experiences still are new and interesting. And I’ve been riding dirtbikes for 47 years...

Last week I rode Carnegie with a bunch of serious yahoos and only rode for two hours and 30 miles before I went into blinky mode. It was pretty serious mileage though. Major hill climbs. I use a different style than on my gas bikes because you can proceed slowly, down to zero, and pull away without stalling. I climb more slowly, picking my way through the terrain instead of relying on the blast thru with momentum technique.

I did fall on a hillclimb when a guy went down in front of me. I rode up the side and around him, but when I dropped back in the groove I got a bunch of traction with a little too much throttle and the bike launched from under me. Shiftless just fell on its side and I went tumbling down the hill. I think i may curtial some of my more challenging routes as I get older.

Pretty freaking great moto methinks; certianly better than my KTM.

I rode with Eric again today. He has a new EX. He had the first customer bike MX#005 but he left that in Europe.
Josh Hill beat Ricky Carmichael with it or something.

Dispite my vow to not ride extreme stuff, to start off I took us up Rancho Hill, just past Twin Hills. Rancho has some pretty intimidating step ups. There was a guy coming down on a KTM because... I guess the KTM couldn’t cut it.
Piece of cake on the electric bikes.

Rancho is just above the TT track. Then Beverly, then Back Springs then Psyche Hill. Then all of the Renz. Good conditions, some moisture, lots of green grass.

And a pretty big Rattlesnake lazing in the Southland Meadows trail. Like a dozen rattles. If we has gas bikes we would have scared him away.

But NOOOOOOO!!! He just lay there. We gave him as much space as possible and rode around him.

I'm so jealous of how much riding you get to do... 80% of the ~700 miles on my VIN #10 are from other riders.

I got to check out the MXR at the Yamaha shop in Modesto yesterday. Different owner now from the Harley shop and the sales guy was VERY cool. They're working on trying to get demos on dirt at the moment but still in the future. I might just take the EX for a test spin and imagine having more power lol. My YZ450F goes to the new owner today.

How big of a generator do I need to power the 120v charger?

Bike and charger can pull the full 120V/15A the circuit can deliver. Factor in losses and you'll want a generator that can happily do 2000W RMS. The Honda EU3000i is the gold standard but pricey. We've been having good luck with the cheapo 5000Ws like the predator and harbor freight (bonus: they can push the 240V if you ever upgrade your charger cord), but are hesitant to recommend them officially because they're loud and we have no idea how consistent the quality or lack thereof is.

That is very good to know. I'm still looking for more numbers on trail riding hours. Last video I saw showed a guy getting about 3 hours on level 1 at Carnegie but apparently he wasn't completely charged. Not sure how low he was though.

I get 2 to 3 hours, 30 to 40 miles, depending on the pace and terrian. 2700 miles of this.

Totally varible.

I went back to Modesto Alta today and thought I would be able to get in a test ride on one of the street legal bikes before plopping down on the mxR. Turns out I misunderstood. They're so new that being able to demo is still a times away. Their "demo" bikes are there, the shop just isn't ready to demo.

Which leads me to a question. The shop said the smart charger actually costs $1800 but the price tag and YouTube videos from Moto journalist say $800. What's the real price?

Yesterday I rode Metcalf and met a guy, Steve, with a new ‘17 MX. He was quick, and I blew my charge demonstrating that I could be too.

I got in 33.4 miles and 2.4 hours before the display flashed a low battery warning, ie, blinkey mode.
