Altered Carbon - Netflix

I am enjoying it but I think that's because it has high-dollar production, and I am pretty much a sucker for the overall theme (a branch on some of the most powerful narratives of black mirror.)

But the quality of the acting feels a bit subpar. Also the actual script dialogue need a lot of help, and that hurts the acting quality too. The story itself is also pretty disjointed, the surprises come at you in a seemingly random, helter-skelter fashion, and often the series has to essentially put everything on ice, and do a narrated retrospective to explain exactly what has gone down. You know it's bad when they need to clean everything up at the end with a narrated retrospective, and after watching it you can tell that there is no way you would've been able to piece together the clues without it.

I really don't feel like White Takeshi is the same character as Asian Tak. Like the actors who portrayed the Eastern European hitman did an amazing job of making you feel like he was really in all of them.

In the scene where he's questioning Laurens guests it would have been an ideal scene for him to "switch personas" between all the individuals he was manipulating but he can't act that well, so...

I liked the abuelita too, especially when they used the sleeve later, but they spent way way way too much time on her crazy family that I don't care about.

She seems like a fine actress, but I can't see past her stereotypicalness of character. Angry sexy latina lady with a hidden agenda and a Catholic family that disapproves of her. And she still bangs Kovacs.

That fucking tattooed mungo they used as the meat for those characters deserve a Best Supporting Golden Globe.

All so perfectly bay area liberal. Absolute gender/racial fluidity. Someone call the PC police and congratulate them for this win. :laughing

I didn't take that away from it at ALL.

I think he's saying it would provide it, not that the movie was implying it.Though seriously, even in a cold uncaring world I'm sure they'd make an effort to sleeve male to male and female to female.

For those who can afford it.

Or you get old nasty leftover sleeves.

You didn't notice that the show perfectly juggles the sleeves such that almost every ethnicity gets reasonable representation and women on several occasions are placed in male bodies? The latter of which seem like a total unnecessary plot-twists unless the show creators have a gender fluidity angle going on.

Keep paying attention. It gets weirder before it starts making sense.

Saw it, glad the pretty thing didn't. A visceral image for sure.

I didn't bother trying to follow the storyline at first. Just watch the show and they'll walk you through the plot every couple episodes.

A ton of homage scenes and plots to other sci-fi films.

The hooker going out to the end of the floating whorehouse before jumping, so star wars "I am your father"

Haha, I had to watch the entire series stoned to understand what the hell it was about. Story moved very fast and randomly jumped to different flashbacks at different points of the plot. Very interesting idea though. :afm199

Mute just came out on Netflix too. Much more, "15 Minutes into the future," than AC, but still some decent Cyberpunk.
