Amazon.com and pedophiles

HappyHighwayman - would it be legal to write and sell a book that details plans to assassinate a public figure or elected official - or would that result in men in suits showing up at the door?

What is the logic applied to stifling the 1st amendment when it comes to threats against a president? This same logic should be applied toward innocent children.

Not an expert by any means but I'd guess you'd be free to write and publish the book as long as it was a "how to" and not an "I'm going to do this". BUT, guys in suits would probably show up anyway.

Think about it. There are ton's of stories out there that are fiction and deal with subjects such as assassinations. But most are fiction and not "how to's".

no, it would not be OK to pick out a specific political figure (say POTUS) to write a book about killing (purty sure anyhoo)

Chum, you did not answer my question earlier. You posted a book "how to kill".
The book "how to kill" does not outline and focus on a specific target. For all we know, the person that reads the book "how to kill" will go out and kill an evil bad guy.

This is the difference here. This book only has ONE potential victim - the innocent kids. Just like a book about "how to kill the pres" would. Both should be illegal.

Anarchist cookbook lets you make a bomb. What percent of bomb victims are innocent kids? Less than .01%? What percent of pedophile victims are innocent kids? 100%. There is the difference.

Furthermore, if 99.9% of all society votes to outlaw it, it should happen.

your original question was targeting a group (political)...this nasty pedo book also targets a group (kids)....

now...if you threaten the current President they will take it srsly....but again...you are not allowed to threaten anyone...legally that is (pretty sure on that)

Why couldn't you post it on line. I'm sure the 1st amendment would cover my next comment...

If I was going to try to kill the president I'd load a big rig full of explosives, armor the front and drive it into his motorcade.

Now I may have some suits show at my door tomorrow but I doubt it since I'm sure they know I have not intentions (or even ability) to do that. And I never stated that I was going to. (Plus I voted for the guy.)

I knew a lady that had a radio show on XM satalite (or whatever that's called) and was ranting about Bush and she said on her show "I wish someone would take out the prez with a high powered rifle." Next day Secrete Service payed her a visit, interviewed her, asked to search her home for weapons which she allowed and left. They made it clear she was within her rights to say what she said but also said that because she is a public figure with a decent sized following they asked her to not make comments like this in the future. The station didn't like the publicity and pulled her off the air.
 
Pft, how to kill. Making holes in people works well, and has been general knowledge for thousands of years.

Those books tend to be mental masturbation for psychopaths.
 
Meh, you'd stand a good chance of getting killed before you got to the prez with your rig, and you'd certainly die if successful.

Personally I'd build a nice RC airplane and load it with explosives. Poor man's cruise missile. The fact that al Qaeda hasn't figured this sort of thing out yet is just one more reason I am filled with contempt at their infantile attempts to attack us lately.

Both examples do not focus on a specific person - but rather a group. So, there really isn't a difference in that respect except (again) for the unsavory topic.

As I said before, Pedophilia is illegal. Writing a book on it is not.

Just because you don't like the topic, doesn't mean it should be illegal...

When the former president of Georgia Edward Shewardnadze was attacked, his armored Mercedes took a direct hit from an RPG and he survived. The RPG was built to destroy tanks, so I would assume the armor in the president's limo to be 'sufficient' to defeat an explosion of an RC plane. Besides, the RC plane would never even get close to the motorcade, they use electronic countermeasures for that. A big rig loaded with explosives won't do it either, because it won't be able to break through (unless the secret service is a bunch of morons, which they are not).
