Amazon in Salinas

...Scannell Properties, which has worked with Amazon on various projects, filed an application to the City of Salinas for a warehouse and distribution facility, standing five stories tall – up to 110 feet – and 3.2 million square feet, making it one of Amazon’s largest facilities in the world.

They pave paradise and put in a parking lot, er, Amazon building.

The arrival of Amazon ushers in the Silicon Valley era of Salinas, and all the impacts that come with it.

Standing on a peak of Little Moab Road in Fort Ord National Monument offers a near-360-degree view of the Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula.

First of all...I want all my Amazon packages to have a full 360 degree view of the Salinas valley before their contents are violently resected at my house.

San Benito County/Hollister City got fuckered on a similar deal. With a 300k sf warehouse already in town, they gave Amazon a bunch of concessions to attract them to town with a new >1mm sf bigger one. Deal gets inked. & 6 months later, just before they open the massive warehouse and Amazon says, "Oh golly oops, we forgot to tell ya? We aren't going to use that 1mm sf warehouse as a "last mile" delivery point after all- its going to feed other, smaller warehouses. We're really sorry, but thanks for paving the new road for us."

Seems the last delivery point triggers how much & to whom the sales tax goes...in this case it (the sales tax $) went up in smoke. The new 1m sf warehouse is now staffed by robots & robot babysitters.
