Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

Looks to be more a case of scumbag juveniles than racism. Very few adults are going to act like that.

I’m surrounded by Asians. They’re like the least troublesome group you could live amongst, and the women are so hot, the more the merrier IMO.

Man, If I was caught doing some stuff like that when I was a kid, I don't think there is a surgery invented that could have removed my dad's foot from my ass.

Without making this political in 1 second- a short answer is because of the pandemic. Many politicians chose to call it the "Kung Flu" , or the "China Virus". This has created an anti-Asian environment. Many ignorant people have scape-goated Asian Americans as being responsible for the loss of their sense of normalcy.

Based on the perps that were caught doing these crimes, doubt that has anything to do with it or that it even crossed their mind.

Pleased this thread has not been dumped in the PolSink. :teeth

Carry on.

Nah, if you are tuned into local reports, a bunch of it is happening. Spitting with, "Go back to China," shit like that.

I've seen tons of videos of racist Karens berating Asian folks.

Don't underestimate the contribution of just plain crazy people:
A Marin County woman has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly spitting on an Asian man and directing a racial slur at him, authorities said.

She is more wack than her photo would say.... and her photo is not all that flattering :p.

Ms Inman. You seem to really suck.

The stuff happening in the bay area these days is crazy. The milder verbal attacks... reminds me of when I grew up in Ohio in the 90s. The Honda plant in Marysville was just in full swing, so every kid assumed I was Japanese and my dad worked at the plant. I recall one time when my dad and I were playing tennis in the evening at the park a car full of h.s. kids yelled from their car "Hiroshima I killed your father!"and peeled out of the parking lot. I was in h.s. at the time and thought nothing of it...probably because it did not surprise me, which is unfortunate and not something I'm proud of at all. My dad ignored it as well. Very much the typical silent Asian that doesn't want to make noise mentality. I'm trying to change that for myself, teaching my boys to stand up for themselves too.

i am by no means an expert on asian culture, but have traveled extensively in the region (many trips to each of china, japan, malaysia, hong kong, taiwan, philippines, and singapore). one thing that has always impressed me is their cultural reverence for the elderly. another is the intensity of the youth. i would seriously enjoy some of these punks taking pot shots at easy targets picking on someone their own size. they’d find the tables seriously turned. expect it would be a major ass whooping. pussies. :x

It's happening because people are shitty, and no matter what you do, people are going to be shitty.
I would word it as 'there are shitty people out there'.

Most people are decent, but there are also shitty people who cause a disproportionate amount of the crap happening. I call them pro-abortion poster children. :laughing

btw the respect for elders is a double edged sword. To honor and respect your parents usually means obeying your parents...even when you're in your 40s. Ask me how I know :laughing

Off topic; I like a lot about East Asian culture (not as familiar with other Asian ones), but dislike some aspects.

Respect for elders is good, to a point (as you say). The collective mindset can be good, but also dangerous and harmful. Here, we say things like "the squeaky wheel gets the grease," but in Asia, to paraphrase, we have sayings like "the nail that sticks out gets the hammer."

The deference shown to elders, to officialdom, etc., in extreme form, can lead to fanaticism and unquestioned obedience (Japan in WW2, a special kind of fanaticism).

Non-Asians, please don’t over-buy Asian culture. There’s a lot of good things about it and a lot of shitty things about it.

I remember I was in an”Asians in America” class and we got to the Filipino part. Some white chick came up to me after class and payed out a huge apology on behalf of her white race :laughing

I chose not to tell her about all the Filipino men who have secret wives/families in the islands, or the general shaming/gossip culture of the women.

That being said, I was called gook during a paintball game when I was a kid. I had to look up what a gook was because I grew up focusing more as me as a person over me as a Filipino, and racism wasn’t on the main line. That kid is now my friend as adults and I respect him as a man.

When we were kids, it mattered more you were a surfer/skater/BMX’er/jock etc. and it didn’t matter what your skin color was. I wish it was still like that from all aspects.

It wasn’t until college when the Filipinos came up to me and were like “you wanna join our Filipino group?” And I’m like “why?” :laughing I never looked at my “Filipino’ness” until other Filipinos told me I should. White folks attempted to do to that all the time by trying to impress me “I had a Filipino friend once!” And I’m like “wwwwoowwwww.”

My dad was called white washed a lot when he was in college by other Filipinos. White men befriended him and were his work colleagues and promoted him to high levels in management. This was in the 1960’s. So if there was any hate, it was from other Filipinos.

Don’t know what this has to do with this thread, but DataDan made a great point that 1) we have to make considerations for the mentally in and 2) I’ve had more violence towards me in my life from non-whites. White people have always been good to my family, even going back to the 1930’s.

Like I said, I’ve had more discrimination and hate towards me because I’m Catholic.

With all due respect, you're an athletically built dude with a background in martial arts. I'm not as big as you, but so far I haven't heard a peep from anyone with regards to my race. But like you I'm not afraid to throw down and I'm certainly not discounting the idea that it can't or won't happen to me. These attacks are mostly happening to the elderly and women because they make for easy targets. However, these attacks are also happening to younger folks with lesser stature.

Its surprising many BARFers aren't aware of this happening but I promise you all if you peruse the Bay Area reddit everyday, there's always some shit popping up. Its concerning for us Asian Americans because we all have parents, grandparents that certainly could've been any of these people in these videos.

Recently, had a boss that put his foot up my ass for about 6 months. I have no idea why. Longest Goddamn 6 months of my life. So as a reader of the Art of War by Sun Tzu, I planned my exit following one of my favorite Sun Tzu quotes. I can’t share the details of what I did but here’s the quote:

“Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

These recent hate crimes bring back all those wonderful (sarcasm) memories. As AO said above, my parents, if still alive, would not have survived a physical attack.

So you left a steaming shit on his desk? Got it! :thumbup
