There is a guy at the Petaluma DMV (sits in front-left, dark hair) who really knows plates and how to get the lettering/digit you want. He must be really into the stuff because he can tell you how to period spec a plate by year make and model, guy really knows it. It seems the DMV won't allow certain configurations from by gone days to be used but he sure knows how to get around that and make people happy. He has patience too, watched him go through it with a guy trying to get period plates, spent over an hour with the guy to make sure he got what would work.
Pissed off everyone else but someone got their moneys worth.

‘70 Ranchero GT -
I got this years ago and let it just sit at my parents place in Hollister. Im riding home next week to install the freshly rebuilt 351 Cleveland.
My sister needed a car and she likes this one so I offered to get it going for her.
If anybody knowledgeable wants to help, especially with the final steps before starting her up, please pm me. I’ve not worked on cars enough to feel confident!
Hands on it just advice or recommendations on where I get it fine tuned, etc...

Going to assume the Cleveland is using a flat tappet cam. Use a break-in oil with lots of zinc. Before starting it, pull the distributor out and use a drill to spin the oil pump and make sure you have oil pressure. I also like to use a syringe and fill up the carb's fuel bowls with gas. That way when you go to start it, it'll fire up pretty quick rather than cranking for a while trying to get fuel up to the bowls.

I am still waiting to catch a break on my finances so I can start my '70 Challenger rebuild. I think I am finally catching up and putting money away and getting ready to do it and then the shit hits the fan and that nice little nest egg is demolished and I have to start over. I hate this shit.
I really wanted to get the first year new Challenger so that I would have the first old production and the first new production but money wasn't there. Maybe I need to play the lotto here so I can get the Demon or Red Eye edition.

Thats one of the things im scared of when thinking about project cars. Having to keep putting it off and money comes into play. Best of luck to you!
Also, I like the new Challengers myself because I think its the best retro car they brought back. Considered buying one myself.

Well she’s back on the road. Last time I posted this here I’d only had it for a few hundred miles before the tranny blew up. 10 years, a college education, career start, marriage, etc and I can now drive around again. To be fair this was almost all my dad’s project. Over that time he put a whole new steering, suspension, rear end, top end rebuild, rebuilt 5-speed.. this thing is a blast. The 4” sidepipes with cherry bombs disburse the sound wonderfully, and it’ll bark the tires just about whenever you want.
It’s also a real dude magnet. I’ve only ever had a few people correctly ID it. Most guys will be like “my mom had one when I was a kid” or something and my answer is always “probably not like this one”
