Hi guys,

I'm interested in participating in a triathlon next spring/summer,
and I'm wondering if I can get some info from folks who have
done it.

What are some sprint-distance triathlons in the bay area?
Would you recommend that for a first timer?

I've just started training for the running (have not run in 20 years);
I have been swimming regularly for the past 3 years so I think I'm ok there.
I used to bicycle a lot 12 years ago.

Any info/advice is appreciated.
thanks.

I did a benefit one, and then a local one just for fun a few years ago; ie, nowhere close to competitive, but it was super fun. For me, never done anything but recreational swimming, so that part was tough, especially the first one being a half mile swim in the ocean, but still... had a blast. I think the bike leg on that one was 18 miles, and the run was 4.

If your aim is to be competitive. I have no useful advice to offer. If your aim is to get out there and do it... just do it. you'll enjoy.

I try to athelete..keeps me tuned for going to work. you meanth camelknot brand spandex thingys?

I slept with 3 girls in a 24 hour period. Does that make me a tri-athlete?
I had three gfs in a two block area when I was 30. pulled a cucumber out of the beet salad from one and shared the choclate sauce with the gal at the next table.
yeah, buddy!
be a fuckhead as longh as you can..adult is just awful:laughing:laughing:laughing

Not aiming to be competitive, just want a challenge for myself.

I got a suggestion on Tri For Fun from OnYourMark events, exactly what I needed.
The run , which is what I'm most worried about, is only 4mi so that's good.

I've been thinking about doing one. The swim is what occupies my mind, I suck at open water swimming.

Why?
Do you swim ok in the pool?
The waves do require a few adjustments, but lakes are pretty smooth.

Let's go for it together! You can help me stay motivated.

My first tri (Tri for Fun), I got pulled out of the water in the first 20 yards of a 400 yard swim. I swallowed a lot of water, and panicked. Back on shore, lifeguard/medical attendant checked to see if I was okay, then sent me on my way to finish the remainder of the event.

I didn't swim very well, back then. Couldn't make it across 20 yard pool without getting winded.

And, let's not forget the 2699 other obstacles and Mother Nature :wow

I have friends, married couple, they started doing tri-athlons and marathons and such, and now they spend all their money on bicycles and travel to races and have abandoned all their friends.

Is this normal in the extreme athlete world?

runner and cycler, but I refuse to tri since I don't like peeing on myself.

highwayman, a lot of tri folks get super obsessed and it takes up all their spare time. It's kind of why I stick to mountain bike racing : it's a lot more social and fun and I don't have to weigh my food.

That being said, I also suck at swimming, but I really do dig trail running. Maybe I'l try an off road triathlon some day...

It goes with any sport if you start to take it seriously. I do jiu jitsu "casually" meaning I compete once in a blue moon and I train 3-4 days in a week.

Sometimes I don't get to go to happy hours.

Right but to the point all your friends are ONLY athlete friends? Like my ex-friend's wife is not pregnant...I assume she'll slow down a little...but I'm wondering if they'll suddenly appear back in our lives

Anyway sorry to derail I just figured you guys would know. I was insulted at first but now I am apathetic.
