Any updates on Joy Higa's and Brant Wiwi's condition from race crashes?

Glad you two are relatively okay considering the alternative... Keep your spirits up.

So it turns out I didnt' get off so easy. Looking at likely back, L and C spine, surgery, but not sure how to proceed yet. I've got a bunch of herniated discs, a ruptured disc, multiple moved vertebrae, nerve damge, etc.

Anyone have stellar recommendations on a neurosurgeon? The name I keep hearing from various people is Dr. Brian Andrews in SF. He's supposed to be the shit - and his waiting list shows it...no appt's until late September. I'm checking in for second opinions with other local surgeons who dont' have that long of a wait, but want the guy who's cutting me to be the best, if it comes to that.

I know you all are an injury prone bunch, so if you have any other recomendations, or even just a thumbs up for Dr. Andrews, I'd appreciate it.

damn, bro! i'm sorry to hear that, dude. :( i hope you get dialed in soon. having broken my back/ribs in a similar fashion (speared by my bike and cartwheeled on a few times), i know how it feels. and it doesn't feel good. heal up, dude!

Crikey Matt - that is bad news, but you're one tough mutha riding right up until they gave you the news. Amazing!! I hope you find the best surgeon to put it all right, rest up well, and come back faster than ever. Best wishes Mate!!

He's not in the bay area but he he's a helluva surgeon.

I got to know him when he happened to be on call when I shattered my forearm into many pieces. It wasn't his specialty but he did a great job with the jigsaw puzzle. Haven't spoken to him in a couple years but at the time he was traveling out of the country every month for training on new procedures. My wife is an ICU nurse and he still has a great reputation.

I have used alpine orthopaedic before and they kick butt. Haven't had this particular surgeon but definately recommend this practice. They have a lot of good doctors there and a nice facility as well.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I wan to try and stay in SF if at all possible. I went and saw a neurosurgeon Dr. Ohstory here in SF this morning. He said to wait this one out a while and see if I still need surgery in a month or so. He's hopeful that the neck won't need surgery at all - just some more time for the herniated discs to settle and the areas around the damaged nerves to heal. So that's good news. The L spine he wasn't so confident about, as one of the discs has collapsed and ruptured, others are herniated, and there are a couple fractures. But he said since I'm currently walking around, albeit in pain and with some nerve damage, it would be best to wait it out for a while and see what the body can do on it's own. Once I feel better I'll try some PT...and if that doesnt' work, then surgery. Hopefully in a month I'll be able to see that other really good doctor, Dr. Andrews, anyway for a second opinion.

The cam and the tube are separate pieces. There are set screws to lock them together. The set screws can vibrate loose (even with red loctite and RTV) and jam in the throttle. I know of 3 people who experienced this.

solution: Desmoto Sport has fabbed up single-piece tubes+cams that don't experience this issue. I have been running these without issue for the past several years.

Thanks; I will give them a call.
