That $800 million (*)? from the UK source?
A rather thin source for info, doesn't match anything local here.

Last year estimated 400,000, low turnout. This year a blowout @ 700,000. My guess 8/7,8,9/21 was the peak number, noticeable drop middle of second week on.

Pennington county is moving up in numbers. The state fair in Rapid City, has been running for a week now, with another to go.
Positivity rate up to 17% for West River, 375 Cases Per Day (CPD) yesterday for the whole state, 249, West River.
Cool Deadwood nites, car auctions, car shows, charity runs, and music venues, all this weekend. Lawrence county up to thirty some new CPD yesterday.

Meade county new cases are climbing much faster than last year.

South Dakota has climbed faster too, but it's too early to tell how high it will go.

That's a well documented number. It's based off of income tax generated during the time period which the DOR releases.

I have been wondering if campgrounds like the 'Chip were the breeding grounds, and how many of the local employees are positive now. No breakdown from location, just a county number added to the toll.
I only got this info once in Grand Junction, some car dealership had 7 employees, and another store had three.
That weekend had to be the max population for the rally.
No whispers, or speculation here locally about any of it.

The i and the u are parked right next to each on this little tiny keyboard... so I'll never tell. :x

Just a happy accident... :teeth

The state fair has ended on Sunday.
The spokesman went on about the attendance numbers, 'rona threat lowered the count some.
More from out of state than normal was noted.
I did notice this while I was in Custer back in July. Lots of overweight tourists from the plains east of SD. The pull of the Black Hills for vacation was big this year. Not surprised about the out of state numbers being up without the Sturgis influence.

Both South Dakota and North Dakota have steeper curves than at the same time last year. That doesn't mean it will get as bad, but they're certainly experiencing a surge that wasn't there before early August.

South Dakota and North Dakota still well ahead of where they were at this time last year. We'll see if it gets as bad again.

SD % of positives are dropping from the high of 17+ % two weeks ago, to 14% yesterday. My county numbers are up a bit by ten per day, Pennington up more by 50, into a hundred some.
Big fight about schools, no mask policy got hammered by protests.
School board backed down, superintendent now equal vote along with the board.
Tourist season, way better than 2019, economy happy. Family tourist visits down for school, late season now is looking for the older couples. They should be ok until they mingle with the collage students. Mask wearing around town coming back slowly.

This reminded me, went to SLO this weekend and rented some clapped out ATVs to play with at Pismo (more fun than I expected to be honest). That night we went out in SLO and ended up at what I presume was a college bar. All the bars in town were packed, no more than a handful of masks to be seen aside from the bartenders. Only thing I got asked for before entering the bar was to pay the cover.

The bar had a smoking patio so I was mostly out there nursing my cigar, music was too damn loud inside anyway, damn kids! :afm199

Thoughts and prayers will help.

Did the smokers give you any grief for the cigar? :laughing

They did not, maybe the grey in my beard gave me an air of authority or something. It was also a pretty big patio so I wasn't too near to anyone. Only place I've been told not to smoke my cigar among all the cigarette smokers Toad Hall in the Castro which is funny because I'd always stink like an ashtray after any amount of time on their patio.

Irony of ironies: I used to attend an occasional scotch & cigar night at a local pub, and the cigarette smokers on the patio would complain about the smoke.

Smoke is smoke, but to each their own I guess, except for those damn kids and their watermellon scented mist, their like roving glade plugins :afm199

Cigar smoke smells much better than cigarette smoke.
