Anyone into Astrophotography?

Nice photos. You're probably $15k into it.

Probably worse. But, you really DO NOT need that kind of spending. I've gone a little off the deep end.

I started using my Nikon D100 (it's like 25 years old and cost me no extra money), a tripod (I already had a tripod, so extra money) and a cheap intervalometer I got from Amazon for $25. I watched a Nico Carver video showing how to take a photo of the Orion Nebula with no tracker. The video gave step by step instructions from beginning to end. I gave it a try and spend a lot of time learning. I started for $25.

It was a lot of fun. I went outside and tried to follow the instructions while I sipped scotch. I did this for weeks and loved it. So, I started researching how to build a "real" rig. It took me several months to figure out what I needed, what I wanted and what I could afford. I still had some money from selling my track bike and my street bike (I mangled my leg at the track). So, I got a decent rig to start and commenced failing. This hobby is freaking hard.

Very impressive photos!!!
Crazy to think that with just the unaided eye we are able to see back about 4,000 light years, which is about 24 quadrillion miles out!!!

Wasn't Valgar intimately involved in that somehow? :leghump:later

The moon does make things challenging, but you can do narrowband imaging even with a bright moon. Clouds on the other hand....
