It's been off/on for years but the past month has been a lot more and the thumb has not come back now for two weeks.

A coworker said something about a smaller cut but when I looked it's either fully open and they cut the ligament or they go in two small holes and still cut the entire ligament.

That's all they can do? It's barbaric!

It's like knees. They just wait until they cut them off.

Ok it's making more sense. I thought you were talking about Computer Tomography

I read somewhere that they can go in and enlarge the passage the nerves run through. Problem isn't a tendon, it's swelling in the wrist putting pressure on the nerves, so boring out a larger passage seems like a good fix. I'm trying to avoid needing it but it pops up after rides here and there.

I have cruise or I could not commute. Coincidence a coworker came in today with a snipped wrist. He's not sure it was worth it but will let me know in a couple weeks

You make it sound like they go in with a surgical version of a dingleberry hone and root it out. I've only read new surgical techniques to cut the same ligament, which are less invasive and less risky to massive bundle of sensitive nerves bound within.

I also read they can use instruments to crush your wrist into a different shape (over time) and maybe improve mobility.

I was thinking, more hanging. A lifetime of hanging every day probably would have prevented this.

The braces are helping the thumb come back but if I take them off, not long before lightning bolts and fire.

Seriously… hanging?? Like from a pull bar??

Lightning bolts and fire sounds very shitty. Hang in there.

Yes, dead hanging. Like, aren't we monkeys anyway and should be swinging from the trees like Tarzan, or was that just a cartoon?

I've read it provides numerous upper body, shoulder, and arm benefits.

You know this could end motorcycle riding, maybe for a while, maybe longer. Motorcyclists should pay attention.

@budman, appreciate your efforts all around. I have not responded to your situation, but it has not gone unnoticed. I'm thinking about it. You're progress is great inspiration for so many you may never know.

Yea, hanging is supposed to be pretty good. And, if you can't hang, you can't do a pull up anyway. (I'm lousy at both.)

I had severe numbing in both hands, and a couple of trigger fingers (fingers that snap back into straight when bent). Carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists , and on the fingers and problems are pretty much gone. It was bad enough that even driving I would have to rotate my hands, while slapping the other on my leg to get the pins and needles to abate. Numbness when using tools, washing dishes, and worse, when sleeping the hands would wake me up stinging. Riding was a bitch, especially if the bike was a vibrator. Not wanting a longer recovery time, I asked the surgeon if I could do both at the same time. He said "Do you want to go home and practice going to the bathroom with no hands?". Great doctor, always a sense of humor. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

edit: He told me that they cut the tunnel that the nerves run through, and when it heals the scar tissue make the tunnel wider.

I am going to repeat it seems barbaric, but thanks for posting and if I may ask how long the recovery was for you, i.e., how long off the bike, and how is it today as far grip strength?

To be fair I have not seen a Dr. but at this point I don't think I need a Dr. to tell me where this is going.

My boss saw my wrist splint and asked... Ahhh too much motorcycling eh??? :clown

Hands stay unused for a week (each hand). Then stitches and bamdages removed, hand use near normal. I didn't notice any loss of grip when healing was over. I would say no more that about a month before back on the bike if everything goes well. Overall I wish I hadn't waited so long.
