Aprilia Reliability

Just picked up a new 2020 RSV4. I can attest to their reliability. It now has 130 mi on the clock and not a single problem:thumbup

Actually ... I bought a new KTM and only made it ~70 miles and it would not start ... had to trailer it home and then to the dealer ... they had forgot to permanently unlock the ECU (it was in the initial temporary unlock mode, which only lets it run for about 1 hour).

So new bike, 70 miles, no start, yippee. But at least it wasn't a real mechanical issue.

So we can conclude Aprilia more reliable than KTM. :laughing

True. Had a Ducati and Italian bikes don't have reliability issues, they have "character". Sold it after 9 months, someone else's problem now.

In 2009 I wanted an Aprilia SXV 550 real bad when I was looking to get a sumo. Being Italian, I decided I would spend more time on the user forums to see the "issues". That nearly scared me away. So I went to a dealer who said they had one and I could test ride it. I got there and he said it wouldn't start and he had already started to tear it apart. This was a brand new 2009 bike and he already had it in parts. Told me he'd have it fixed and I could come back and give it a go. Yeah... right.

So instead I bought a KTM 2009 SMC690, that bike never had one flippin' issue and I rode the fuck out of it before I sold it. I'd buy another one in a heart beat.

All anecdotal, so your mileage may vary. Good luck! :thumbup

Salesman "I gave it to you", "I gave it to your wife", "I dropped it in the parking lot", "read the manual", and the latest is "I'm waiting for a call from the factory". :wtf. Up on the pit bulls for another couple of days. Hope she fires up next time I hit the "go" button.

Do you attribute these results to the brand of oil, viscosity or frequency of oil changes?

Does it start anyway? I assume this is the code tying your keys to the dash. AF1 has lots of info about this on the forum.

Don't put a code in. It'll keep asking (forever), but if you forget your code I've read there's no way to refresh the thing to new and requires a new dash purchase. Mine does it too...I'm not entering a code.

The service mgr said they are set at 0000 or the last 4 digits of the VIN but I don't want to mess w/ it.

If a dealer has to unlock a code to run a bike..I will not buy that bike..

Aprilia reliability is the dictionary definition of "Oxymoron."
 
Just follow up on my original post. Back in Jan/Feb I put a deposit down on a Tuono 660 (Acid Gold - the polarizing color). I picked it up in mid-June, and at the beginning of July, I got a call from Aprilia telling me my bike was on the recall list and needed a new engine (connecting rod issue).

Sure, that sucks, but the bike is amazing and I'm looking forward to getting that new engine and then going through the whole "keep it under 7500 RPMS while you're breaking it in" phase again.

As was mentioned once or twice, the AF1 forum is a great place to go for everything.

3,000 miles and so far no issues whatsoever on my ‘19 Tuono Factory.

Hasn’t stalled or anything like that, either.
 
Yeah there was a bad batch of connecting rods as well as a valve service bulletin for the 2nd run of the RS660. I'm lucky that my sub 100 Vin has been bullet proof.
