AR15 sexperts, is this a good deal?

I thought about getting an 80% and the jig kit for the next build:teeth

You can probably rent or borrow a jig from somebody on CalGuns.
I have a 10/22 80% lower I need to finish after the next two AR's are done.

The AR market is so cheap right now that there is no way I'd spend $700 on a carbine gas parts gun made with meh parts. Just my opinion!

Not sure you have looked at the AR market lately. In the past month or so their has been a run on ARs because of Obama. I was one of these people that wanted an AR before Obama tried to change anything.

The cheapest AR you are going to get is likely a S&W MP which goes between $600 and $750. Canyon Sports was selling one for $600 but they were sold out within a day, most other stores sell them for $750.

If you want to build one, like I did you will spend over $600 for the parts, assuming you don't just buy the cheapest POS parts you can find. If you did buy the cheapest parts, you are still going to spend $500 to $600 and have a cheap gun.

FYI, I spend a few days in Reno looking for complete uppers and they started at about $600, if you could find one and online cheap ones start at $350, and you still need the lower ($85-150), LPK ($50 to $100), rear stock ($50 to 200), forward handguard ($50 to $500) If you want to build a good one you will spend $700.

'mericans don't use the word "need" when discussing anything relating to firearms. Plus, what's with all those pussy scientists with their stupid microscopes? Are their eyes made of ovaries or sumfin?

You don't... NEED... a 150hp mc...And why have iron sights if you are not GOING to use them. Why does this thread feel like it is a HUNID years old brought back?

.223 Wylde AR $700 OBO (650 for me) Parts List:
- 16inch .223 Wylde Upper with Carbine gas system from Runner Runner Guns 1/7 Twist
- Palmetto State Stealth Lower
- charging handle
- Nikon P223 scope and scope rings
- magpul B.AD. LeverRunner Runner NiB Bolt Carrier Group
- Magpul Hand Guard
- Magpul Angled forgrip
- Thorsden custom stock
- Palmetto State Milspec lower parts kit
- Milspec

As cheap as it is, thinking I'd rather have something chambered in 556?

Yep, I wouldn't want Wilde. Probably why they are selling it.

Everything I've read so far is that 223 wylde is superior barrel for the AR. It's more accurate. My next AR I'm going that route instead of 5.56.

TL;DR - 223 Wyld shoots both 223 and 5.56 more accurately. Designed by Bill Wylde.

other than a pressure difference read up on both cartridges.
as it deals mostly with the weight of the round.
heaver bullet's like the twist offered in the 5.56 chambering.
lighter bullet's like the "slower spin" out of a .223 chambered gun.
does not seam like much and most would never know the difference.
all weight rounds will shoot just fine, no problems.

but buy a couple books and learn this rifle. it is a great toy and so many "add on's" can be bought for it. and yes all legal in the peoples republic of califourna.

.

pss: go to http://www.calguns.net/ for all the input you could ever want or need. including there assault weapons flow chart.

But, he is paying $650 for a cheap parts gun bro! Nothing on that list says anything other than "mediocre cheap parts". I'd rather have the M&P! It's likely a better gun.

Don't know where you are looking, but there are other places besides Reno! Geez, so many cheap parts/uppers around. The AR market has never been softer.

Chambering has nothing to do with rifling twist.

You can have any kind of chamber and any twist of rifling.

:thumbup

It's not about superior. It is about finding ammo that is compliant. I'll take NATO 5.56/.223 chamber all day for that reason alone.

Depends what you plan to do with the weapon. Shoot paper precisely, shoot animals, or be ready for the apocalypse. :)

What is that to you? Why do you need a 150hp motorcycle?

The AR15 fear always strike me as odd, since the AR15 is like the Ninja 250 of the gun world.....not much power, sells like hotcakes. :laughing

A .223 wylde will shoot any of the ammo that the "Nato 5.56" will shoot. It will also shoot .223 (not a NATO chamber, btw.)

To recap:

* .223rem chamber: shoots .223

* .5.56nato chamber: shoots 5.56 or .223

* .223wylde chamber: shoots 5.56 or .223

A faster twist rifling (1-7: that means one full twist in 7") stabilises heavier bullets better (62-75 grain)

A slower twist (say 1-10) is better for lighter bullets

This is IN GENERAL. I am no expert by any means, just trying to help clear the water. :cool

Buddy of mine is getting a job at a machine shop. Said to bring my 80% lower in anytime and he'll take care of me :D :D :D time to build my dream AR10

Dont tell that to my 300 blackout :teeth

It's like adult legos and they are relatively inexpensive to own. Also, the intrigue in building and not having it registered. At the gun show, saw so many were forking $$$ for AR10 & AR15 80% lowers and jigs.

Much more to it than that. Have a jig? Need one for either a drill press or CNC. Also, make sure you're the only one handling the equipment to play it safe. Best not telling anyone you have access. You milled them all with a dremel :p
