Assfault Paint

Just for example, those painted arrows on 17, right in the middle of the lanes where there are no turns.

There is no reason for them other than to create a traction hazard.

The government is installing safety hazards.

There is absolutely no reason for any fucking painted arrows in the middle of the lanes there. It's even worse they outline these with dots.

Show me the data that these have any positive effect. I'm stating publicly they are a measurable hazard and get rid of them.

Why does the paint have to be more slick? Why can't they mandate this polymer express more grip? Isn't it supposed to be an epoxy sandpaper type mix? It should be like skateboard grip paper.

I'm spinning out over the new crosswalk for no good reason.

I rode 17 and the white arrows they paint in the middle of the lanes for no apparent reason make is slippy. I had a great line, until I hit that arrow. And for god sakes why are they putting those traction killing bumps all around those arrows? They want people to crash.

The bars got loose, the rear got loose, the bike dropped 5 degrees. I held it smoothly through. That wouldn't have happened without the stupid paint.

WTF?

Was this discussed before? Seems like I saw it on the news.

Don't get me started on tar snakes, why can't they put some sand in those too ?? :mad

BARF tackled lane-splitting, is paint/tar snakes next? :laughing I'd sign a petition and ride to Sacramento...

Last year I had a wind gust push me across my lane as I was going up hill around a slight bend, wind never affects my line but it did this time because it caused my tires to slide/drift across tar snakes at 70mph...that woke me up right quick :wow

I've seen it done right. That's good. I need to assess a new huge green and white crosswalk off my exit.

now the pedestrian crossings have these anti-slip patterns.
They recently repaved and repainted a street nearby, and all of the ped crossings look like that now (both white and yellow, I think. The yellow ones are near a school).

Now, I don't know, I have looked at them closely. But I can theorize that the large squares may be painted with traction paint (from the "lets make up words" department) because people may be walking across them in the rain, whereas for things like arrows and other lines, not so much.

Just making stuff up, but I can see that being a possibility.

Actually, it looks like they installed those panels upside down.

Would it kill them to merely toss a couple of handfuls of sand on the wet paint?
It doesn't seem to take much more than that.

On a well traveled walk surface, the sand will wear down pretty quickly.

how about we talk about solutions and not point to petty logistical concerns like cost and wear.

The assfault could also be treated. dimpled, embedded with sharp stones, glass,

how about just don't grease the middle of the lane, especially on the meat grinder

I suggested we eliminate the middle of the lane years ago.
All that did was piss off a buncha car people...which made me smile.

Oh thought this was gonna be that video of painted chick on ebike or edirtbike that wheelies then ass paints the asphalt with her skin/blood, and all you see is her Santa hat landing on skid mark after she loops it and flies off

I have a pix of South Dakota Tar Snakes, installed before Sturgis, one year.
I believe it is in "bike on location"
A nice fresh squiggle O' tar, quickly topped with luxury embossed two ply TP.
All of it done, so safely, though I don't know why, or just what does work?
Livin in a rig, I took notice, for I have to use Scotts, one ply,
Extravagance on Display, South Dakota, opens its pocket book for its Bikers, , ,

The new tar snakes on Alpine / Pescadero Roads are slicker than snot in the wet, kept me on my toes yesterday.
All the BS that is our roads is the gat dam gubment and affiliates.
Also often hard to see with all the shades trees on alpine/pescadero
Having to be mindful of painted lines/dots amongst other sht just takes up more mental bandwidth unnecessarily
