Made a decision to do more track days this year and purchased myself a Dainese Assen Suit. I'm looking into back protectors and its a bit overwhelming! There are so many options.

I normally ride with an insert back protector in my jacket, but a seperate protector that you wear under the suit seems like a good investment if I'm going to be riding the track more. What are you cool cats using nowadays? What fits? What works best? Is this something like a helmet where I should go in person to try on as it fits everyone differently?

Thanks in advance, all. On a side note, if you guys are ever going out to the tracks from SF and need a buddy, I'm happy to tag along and chip in for gas/hotel/food etc. I'll probably start off putting around in C group while you go zoom zoom with the A kids :ride

+1 to Forcefield. I use run the Pro L2K and also have their chest protector. Ive tested them A LOT with good results.

im still waiting on other brands to match or exceed Forcefield. the A* KR-3 looks cool w/ rib protection, but kidney protection seems to be lacking. the Dainese Manis looks thin and cheap like all their other back protectors. oh well.

I don't see the need to spend more than required to get Level 2 protection. IMO it comes down to features, price and comfort. The Joe Rocket 2.0 clicks all of these for me for about 1/3 of the price. I'm 3-4 seasons in with mine and I find it completely unnoticeable when wearing it. To the eye it looks to do a better job of dissipating/spreading the impact than the Forcefield. It also looks thicker but again, I don't know it is there. Never needed to test it thankfully!

Happy Pro Sub4 user here as well. My only advice is to find one you can try on because it can be a bit thick.
If you already have a tight suit or jacket it'll definitely be tighter with the Sub4 vs most other brands.

Customer back protectors made in Sac for racers. If they are good enough for Colin Edwards, then I should be fine. I used Helimot for his leathers and now impact armor for others.

You do measurements, he creates a styrofoam version, you try on and take pictures and he makes up the final product. You get to have custom graphics too.

I have a Forcefield Pro Sub-4 that I use for street riding. No way that would fit inside my leathers. The Force Field back protectors become malleable with body heat and fit really well too the point I don't even notice mine. I use an CE2 insert back protector for my suit.

+ another. It's what I've been using and tested out as well. But...

I wish more companies made combination back/chest protectors.
I just switched to a A* track vest and love it. There's some airflow issue on stupid hot days but I like the added chest protection and the one piece solution that keeps everything in place. Forcefield now has a vest as well and I would buy that if I didn't have my A* already.
