Back protectors ?

Couldn't hurt. It's an argument for protectors with larger area coverage, at least.
 
On a similar but slightly different note, I need to buy a back protector to wear under 1 pc leathers for a track day on Monday - just realized my old one is unusable. Where's a good place to buy one over the weekend? Does Cycle Gear carry them?

I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but Cycle Gear in Pleasanton had a few when I was there last week; not a huge inventory and sizing was limited. I would definitely call ahead.
 
Cycle Gear still have some Alpinestars, Dainese, and Icon. For anything like Forcefield you'd have to go to a place like Road rider in San Jose.

Just want to mention that, like helmets, fit is really important. When I decided to replace my Bohn I went for the Manis. Even with all the sizes they have I couldn't get one to fit/feel right. Got a Forcefield L2 Evo and was much happier. I also like the slightly wider coverage vs the Manis or the Nucleon, but that's personal preference.
 
Having never used a dedicated back protector, I'm kinda curious which ones are best for a track use - and how they compare to the d30 inserts found in most leather jackets
