I'm looking for recommendations for a goods balaclava that keeps the wind out and at the same time doesn't make the helmet too tight.
I hear I should look for silk ones and that REI has some, but I really couldn't find any that wouldn't make the helmet unbearably tight.

TIA

I hate to say… Temu, but I have about a dozen thin ones to tuck my hair into. The do not cover my face

I have used these in the past and they work well against the wind and they are light weight. Someone told me they work well in the bank for quick stops (y)

I have a Buff that's rather ratty now and recently purchased one from Cycle Gear. Both work well to keep my neck warm on cold days and keep bugs from hitting me in the neck in warmer weather. The one on the REI page looks way too involved. Stick with something simple.

These in the summer for me. Fits perfectly under my snug helmet

These for the winter- Have a helmet that has a bit more wiggle room to fit these

Back home (in Cali), I'd only use a neck gaiter for most of the weather, very rarely would I go with a full ninja mask. I would pull the neck gaiter above my ears, and that would do the trick.

It actually gets into freezing temps here in Austin, TX. but the roads are ice and the drivers here are worse than any Bay Area driver I've ever encountered, so I don't ride when it's that cold (in the 20's).

When the weather's hot, I wear a skull cap, and I cover my ears with that. My ears are slightly cauliflowered - just enough to make putting a helmet on and off and wearing one, uncomfortable.

Ninja masks apparently also help wirh less friction on whatever little hair is left on my head. It also keeps my helmet free of hair.

Obviously, washing the balaclava is a lot simpler & faster than washing the helmet liner
