Barf Reloaders

:rolleyesAbsolutely a good idea.

That is a terrible sentence.

Yes and no. It's cheaper, but still expensive because bullets are solid copper these days. Brass is also pretty dear, especially if you shoot a popular caliber like 9mm or .223.

My dad is a reloading god. Pm or post questions and I'll pass 'em on to him.

Sorry, I was being a jerk. :p

Reloading components are getting hard to find as well, but availability and price have not gone quite so mad as regular ammo.

Given the time investment it requires, I'm not sure it really adds up to saving any money, but I've been reloading .44 stuff and suddenly there's five hundred rounds sitting here that I certainly didn't buy at $0.80 a pop.

Edit for John: Bullets aren't solid copper, unless you're paying specifically for that type. Plenty of lead sitting here in the spare room to prove you wrong. Once-fired brass is about $35/1000 for 9mm, more for the bigger calibers. .223 bullets are getting scarce, as are certain size primers. Other than that, it's still reasonable.

:twofingerIf y'all are nice I have lots of 9mm and .223/5.56 brass on hand, I was going to take a boatload to be recycled until the recent hysteria. I posted it up before the unfortunate tragedy in December and got no takers. :x Oh, if y'all aren't nice, I still have lots etc. etc. :twofinger

You beat me to it. :thumbup

Small rifle primers are not scarce...they are nowhere to be found unless you're willing to pay over $50/1,000. If you want the small rifle primers made for ARs, you can expect to pay at least $75/1,000. Bullets are damn near impossible to find but you can still find them. I just paid 23.5 cents per rd for the SS109s which are the military (green tip for those that know) penetrator 62 gr. I've got a thousand of those and I was happy to only pay what I did for them. I lost was outbid on two auctions in the past week for LC brass. The once fired LC 223/5.56 brass is selling for 25 cents ea. Just last week I bought 1,100 pieces of brand new LC brass for 21 cents each. That shit is now going for about 50 cents each if you can find it. We haven't even started talking about powder yet! I've been searching for 3 weeks now for powder and thank goodness I found 8 lbs of IMR 8208 XBR last night for the normal retail price.

If you are just now thinking of getting into reloading it's kind of too late because you are going to be hard pressed (pun intended) to find all the shit you need. It will come back but I predict it will be at least 3 months.

I'd reload but I'm afraid I'd drop cigar ash on the powder. :D

And dayum, I have some cases of 5.56 I paid less than 16 cents per live round. 25 cents just for brass? Wow, that's crazy, let alone fiddy cents.

Couple days ago, Powder Valley announced they received, i believe it was, 5 million SPPs from CCI.

Sold out in two days :wtf and those were new orders, not backorders.

I have about 10K of SPPs so it looks like i'll be putting off shooting Limited till things get better, if they do get better. 45K of LPPs will last me a few years though so SS is safe :thumbup

Times have changed Steve. That ammo you have is selling for a little over a buck a round right now. Once fired LC brass used to go for about 8 cents/shell and pulled ss109 bullets used to go for about 8 cents each. Three months ago I bought 2 boxes of 1,000 each of CCI No. 41 primers for $32 a box at a gun show and felt like I paid too much. I'd gladly pay that now without giving it a second thought. :(

Don't forget yer can food, water and bags of 90% silver coins.

i know many re-loaders that are not preppers. it is about saving money and quality control.

i bought a press and my dies, was holding off for my components until i could buy a lot in bulk, then this market, hell no.

Reloading is always cheaper but right now is a bad time, particularly for 223. Still, you won't be paying anywhere near $1/rd.

Shit. I shouldn't have let my bro use my dot two two threes.

In other news, I've got brass to reload. I like reloading since it prevents me from dealing with yahoos who are over charging.

Yes. Reload

OP - your timing could have been a little better :)

The lack of supplies right now is, as far as I remember, about the same as early 2009. Then it got back to normal. Load up when it's normal.

Also whether to reload or not depends imho on the cartridge. I don't bother with 5.56 right now cos I have loads of factory. Don't bother with any 7.62 that's feeding the M1A, it likes NATO surplus. However my bolt 308, 300 winmag and 338LM all love my reloads, along with my wallet.

Need to go out and tidy up my reloading bench now :)

My timing is shit :laughing

Been researching online the basic stuff like brass, bullets etc., and that stuff is sold out too.
