BARF's #1 Road in California

What road do you nominate for #1 in California

Don't know that it changed any, it's still a sweet road. (The roller coaster's still there.) The west side seems a little more torn up that it used to be 25 yrs ago, but I still put it at #1.

I've got to agree with Andy. The re-alignment may have taken a few of the "gothca" corners, but the roller coaster is still pretty fun. :ride

*edit* Also note that I updated the poll to correct a mistake. I had earlier attached the section of 162 from 101 to Covelo to #15, Hwy 128, when it should have been attached to #14, Hwy 162. Apologies for any confusion, but I kind of suspect that other than Andy and few others from the north bay that none of you have ever ridden it anyway. :laughing

When the stars are aligned right in the cosmos, and the roads dry enough, Slackmeyer says he's gonna take me through (Baby sit?) the dirt section of 162 all the way to 5. :teeth Hummm, maybe I'l have to hit Covelo this weekend?

I'm salivating! :rofl

I wouldn't consider those two sections to be the same road unless you are going to ride thru mendo on Alder Springs. Alder Springs is dirt, but wide and well graded. You could drive a Ferrari thru there.

162 from Oroville should be looped with Quincy Laporte. Or maybe 49 if you have goat aversion.

Your point is well taken. It didn't work the way I had it before either. :dunno

I did notice that, but figured that no one else (except Andy, Luckett, and you), would really notice the difference.

Well, that's kind of like my view that sonora, ebbetts, and monitor should be lumped together, since they naturally loop together when ridden. I think the I-5 to 101 section of 162 is great, and the dirt portion in the middle gives it priority. Have to admit I've never ridden 162 east of I-5. That'll have to be fixed this spring. . .

Dude if you're gonna do that tomorrow, come back through Davis and check in at Dani's party. :)
A bunch of sloppy, drunken BARFers on horses, with guns? Oh yeah, that sounds like fun! :rofl

Actually I dun gotta do the Chinese New Year thang tomorrow, cuz ya know; that's important to us ignorant, back woods, inbred hillbillies! :toothless

And I just noticed my Angel ST front has worn prematurely, I may not even ride this weekend. :cry

Come with us when the rides on the six finalists begin in April. Several of us rode 36 this weekend.

Ya know, some of us (ok, just me, AFAIK) won't be able to go on these 'evaluations' until mid-JUNE. :twofinger

So...

I'm not suggesting y'all wait for me to come back from the big sandy sh@thole, but be warned, I've got a LOT of riding to catch up on, and I WILL be going on some group rides... :thumbup :laughing

We'll hold one of them in your honor, Peter. :)

Icehouse Run up in Auburn area is a good one as well.

I would highly suggest that Wentworth springs be on any avid riders to do list. The only reason i would not call it my absolute favorite road in california is that it a 10 min each way road, and far from anywhere. That being said, the surface was unbelievable and I only passed or even saw 2 cars in about 3 hours of looping back and forth.

Looks like it's not going to make the cut, but I put my :2cents in and do a +3 for Wentworth as well. I'm sure 36 is better, but I've got a little birdcage in my heart for Wentworth.

As for Mosquito Ridge, that can be part of a loop from/to Wentworth. That's my usual summer route instead of going all the way down Icehouse and droning back up 50.

Make your case, man. Just cause a bunch of folks have never ridden it does not mean it should not be on the list. Post up some pics or a vid showing how awesome those roads are. You might influence the vote. :cool

Okay, but on a more serious note, I never seem to stop and take pics of the good stuff. Just the unusual stuff, like snow. I'll just mention these threads instead of picspamming:

Mosquito Ridge - Terrible Weather

Mosquito Ridge _Fall Color

Icehouse, near 50

And I'll add that Mosquito Ridge Rd, is um... technical, shall we say. The reward for putting up with some real crap pavement, is some great pavement and some great scenery.

Case closed! :laughing

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! The only way people can really vote on what the #1 road is to go ride lots and lots of different roads! :ride

Well, here is Sonora Pass:
