Bay Bridge Commute

This morning WB on the western span I saw a black & white Zuk V-Strom, probably '14 or '15, with a top box and panniers, no plate but it had a seven-pointed police dept star sticker on the tank. I couldn't see which dept or city. The rider was wearing a textile jacket with hi-viz on the front, back and sleeves; white full face helmet, no badge or belted hardware.

At first glance it looks like maybe a local patrol or a park ranger moto but there was nothing typical like blue & red lights, radio box or any other insignia indicating it police on the bike. It only looked official from the side, so it wasn't going to help splitting. :dunno

I pass them every once in a while on my commute to work.

Them
? Who/what are they? It did not say 'Police' anywhere else on the bike

I have no idea who they are, I just ride by them sometimes, just that little star badge on the side. Assumed it was just someone who thought sticking it on the side would make cars move more or thought it looked cool.

I've seen that rider a few times, I just assume it's someone that got access to a cool decal.

I've seen a wide variety of splitters the past 2 weeks,: I pull over for the faster and have patience for the slower. If they're full on agro, rev bombing, side mirror slapin' troglodytes I avoid the noid and chill. A couple of minutes ain't no big deal.

Was the pherring damaged?

Yep - saw it. Ambulance took rider away.
White Mercedes had a bit of a dent and scratch marks on drivers side.
Bike was being towed away. Was a Suzuki SV650S ( i think). Not familiar to me.

From my helmet camera, it looks like the driver side mirror was hanging off of the white sedan as well.

Come "winter", there are no split trains and I rarely see other riders on the bridge.

In the early 70's I commuted to SF State from Oakland, and rarely saw any motorcycles, ever, except for CHP motors. In the Winter, not even they would be out on bikes. However in those days, a traffic jam was rare, even during the "Hump Years" before I was old enough to ride.

What's the deal with everyone splitting all the lanes right next to each other? That's a disaster waiting to happen.
