so I'm an East Bay White Boy and that means nothing really but I got an invite to a Hispanic face book group which is Raiders based. At some point I gotta admit that Raiders culture has a Hispanic flair to it and I'm cool with that; you know Tom Flores and all that. So I have to wonder am I deserving of this? Does my Raider fandom allow me some Hispanic cred as a white boy? Note I'm not allowed to drink tequila with rancheros because I go native.

yeah it's the Homies group, I partied with them at the Oakland Coliseum when the Raiders were in town. It's just strange getting associated with a group that at first glance I'd not be included in but I'd be down with cus that the way Raiders fans roll.

One of my first bay area experiences was attending a quincinera at an A's game. My brother wife worked with the girls older sister. I felt right at home and her grandpa wouldn't take no for an answer when it came to food or beer. I vaguely remember the game itself.

Had many Hispanic work colleagues I knew for years. Always happy working with any of them. A few were really close. Jose, I consider a brother.
One lunchtime . Jose and I were sitting on the ramp eating lunch. Can’t remember the conversation Until this point;remember these words exactly “Jose said ‘you should hear how these Mexican guys talk about white guys when they’re amongst themselves,, ." … I put my hand up, don’t wanna hear anymore; taking aback. . It was a low blow, I’ve never had any thoughts in that direction, little stunned, didn’t wanna think about it.
We were quiet for a little bit and then back to normal.

If you got invited to the Carne Asada, enjoy it. I don't think real foo's care about skin color. Just pass the sock check homie.
Yup, nobody seems to care that I have been the white son in law for a decade and a half.

You're probably much younger than I am, but my advice is don't overthink it too much. You have something in common and that's the most important thing.

Filipinos and Hispanics share the same culture in many ways.
My wife is from the Philippines and has a large family who have always been very welcoming from day one. Their hospitality is off the charts as is the case with all Filipinos.

Have you considered NOT being a White Boy?

I wonder if the Spanish had anything to do with that...

I've actually got in arguments with Mexicans over why they should be Raiders fans. Obviously I'm a Raider fan and wear my heart on my sleeve and believe if your proud of your Mexican heritage than you should be a Raider fan because of Tom Flores. I'm also a Al Davis fan and ascribe to his view of racism or race which is controversial because it views humans in a 2 dimensional way; you are either Silver and Black or not, and I choose to be Silver and Black.

I was astounded to see how kid’s birthdays are celebrated in the Philippines.
They normally have a game where the kids line up, first in line is blindfolded and handed a stick or bat, and they try to hit a clay pot filled with candy and coins suspended over a tree branch via a rope.
When the pot breaks they all rush in to gather what they can.
Piñatas are safer in that regard but it’s weird seeing the same Hispanic tradition in an Asian country.

Ahhh....Da Raiders.....
What are their motos....I forget...
"Commitment to excrement"?
"Just wince, Baby"?
Something like that....

As a proud Latino, if you're invited to the asada you've been accepted.
