Ok, this movie looks dumb and this dude looks like a total douche canoe, but I did think the preview was kind of cool 'cause he's riding a 1928 or so Indian 101 Scout. My dad's got one just like it although he's never let me ride it.

Anyone know how it is he's riding along with his right hand off the handlebar? :teeth

Good guess, but no. He's got his hand on the shifter....

He might be shifting or resting his hand on the shifter. Why doesn't the bike slow down though??? ;)

Based on your "I know something you don't know" attitude permeating your posts...

Bike controls weren't standardized until the '70s I believe. So it isn't that exciting or interesting that the throttle is on the left.

Besides, this motorcycle content was already discussed in General a while ago.

Slow down there buddy, wasn't trying to be a jerk, I just saw the preview for the first time and thought it was cool to see a Scout in action. I wanted to see if anyone could figure it out with some thought and a few gentle hints.

Does Alex Trebek have a smarmy "I know something you don't know" attitude as the host of Jeopardy just because he has all the answers? Oh wait...he does! But that's beside the point....

You're right in that foot controls weren't standardized until the 70's. However, this particular Indian has a left hand THROTTLE! The right hand grip does turn, but that's for the manually controlled ignition advance. That's one of the reasons my dad and I are too afraid to ride his.

AND the reason the twist throttle was placed on the left, was due to the fact that Indian was trying to get into the LEO market, left throttle let the cops have access to the ol' six shooter in a hurry. :thumbup

and btw, the movie was really good. don't hate brad pitt because he probably looks better than you do and bangs angelina. movies such as se7en, fight club, and oceans 11 tells that he's not total "douche canoe", whatever that is.

Whooo! Sounds like someone's a little bit in love!

There's no doubt he's better looking than me, two of those movies you mention suck shit, and Angelina is ugs.

Once again, I apologize for starting a thread in which people who choose to participate could possibly have a little bit of fun learning about an old motorcycle. I know there is no place for motorcycle discussions on the Bay Area Riders Forum.

I apologize for my tone in the initial post even though it's hard to tell one's tone in writing.

I apologize for mentioning something that's been mentioned before in General. Since almost everything motorcycle related has been discussed in one way or another on BARF, perhaps we need to consider locking all of BARF and making it read only so as not to clog up the Internets.

If anyone wants to fill out a HFR (Hurt Feelings Report), please do so and leave it in my inbox.

Grief counsellors will be available for anyone who wants to talk about it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. Oh, too late. :twofinger

cool indian.
thought it was a really good movie.

thought some of the posts in this thread were annoying. 1.5 stars.

Everyone should ride an real old bike once to appreciate what we have now. Left hand throttle, right hand spark advance, foot clutch and tank shift keeps you busy. I can do the left/right old british/american foot shift memory change up in about three blocks but this was just plain work.

I brought the bike back with a new respect for old grizzly bastards that rode across the country with these things.

My buddy described riding the old Indian like driving a car. You use your left hand to steer. The right hand shifts gears. The left foot actuates the clutch. The only difference is that the throttle is in your left hand.

I would so crash that thing in the parking lot.
