I've known for awhile that Berkeley Honda Yamaha was for sale, but I guess it's been made public as of today. What a shame. I've bought some bikes there over the last 25 years, and bought countless parts and accessories. Scott and Karl have always been good to me. I wish them all the best in whatever comes next, but I will miss having a good shop close by.

It's a shame to see them go. I have been there many times and I will say they were one of the most professional shops I had ever been to. It keeps getting harder to find a good shop.

News like this merely raises my already existing anxiety about our sport.
I was recently recalling what the moto scene was like in the late 90's-early 2000's.
Fuck, we were an obnoxious group.....loud R6's and liter bikes were part of the daily soundtrack of any commute.
Not so much anymore. The few bikes I do see when I'm out riding tend to be younger folks on Ninja 400's which is good to see, but the numbers just aren't there.
The closing of Mach 1 in Vallejo sent a chill up my spine for the same reason the demise of Berkeley Honda does.
Frankly, if I was younger and in the motorcycle industry right now, I'm afraid I'd be aggressively searching for my Plan B.

There wouldn't be any shops in Az, without Bob Parsons, Go Daddy guy.
He has a string of bike shops up the I 17, Phoenix to Flag, maybe more?
I guess his level of "financial security" can support the Moto industry, here.

:love Yeah. The good ol days! Ripping up and down the SC mountains. Going to tire testing. Trying to meet your favorite racer. Seeing Grand Prix switch to 4 stroke. Every year seeing the spec sheet of 600's and Liter bikes get crazier. If you were a young moto enthusiast in that era it really was the golden age. Good times. Glad I made it through it. :laughing

Scott was the most straight talking "salesman" I had ever the pleasure with whom to do business. His full transparency negotiation skills will be missed

Karl is a Capri guy and it's the only shop within 20 miles of me. this is going to hurt.

Yep, me too, I was a Berkeley Honda Yamaha die-hard. Bought there a lot even though I live in Sonora. 3 new Honda's and one new Yamaha in 25 years from Scott Dunlavey. I always wanted to patronize this shop because I wanted them to stick around, even though i/net buying was cheaper and more convenient for me. Carl and Scott, always took good care of me and a few of my O.M.C. club-mates. I rep'ed for several accessory co's and BYH was a good customer of mine for years starting back in '81, so I do go back a ways with these guys. They almost feel like family. Best of luck to Scott, Juliana, Carl and Karen, as they embark on the retirement chapter of their lives. Gonna miss my "go to" shop. Guess it's So So Cycles in Concord, or Modesto BMW, Yam' Can-Am for me now...

byweb.jpgSo sad to see them out of the business. Ad was from AFM rulebook in 81ish. Got my start in parts and as a mechanic there. Great group of honest and experts in motorbikes.

Pretty historical image my friend. :thumbup

For sale/sold doesn't necessarily mean its gone for good.

Nice to meet someone from Sonora on the boards. While I wasn't born and raised there, I do consider it my hometown. After a 4-year stay in Washington State in the mid 80s, we moved back and first stayed in Strawberry before moving down to Twain Harte and finally settling in Sonora. Graduated Sonora High in '97. Actually just passed through a couple weeks ago on the way up to Bridgeport.
