Best air quality in California?

I lived in Morro bay for over a year, there weren't many days that didn't have brown haze off on the horizon. All about the time it would take for the earthquake/meltdown stuff to travel from Japan.
I would look at way north, up where Sasquach lives, redwoods, emerald triangle.

Mendocino "A", zeros across the columns...

I can concur, the air is sparkling clear with the only exception being during fire season. But that is temporary. We live in a rural area (no street or city lights) and on clear nights there are billions of stars, like camping in the Sierras. Love it.

I actually like lake county. almost bought 20 acres there about 7 years ago.

would love to build a yurt there and have a littke vacation spot. the cukture is hideous, but I enjoy the landscape up in the hills near colusia. a rammed earth house would be great too. I'd love to do a mud repllica of a mossi house

Ya might look into Straw bale , for home building.
I have a friend that did that.. Bales come from rice growers, they give them away for free, to get rid of them.

Make the walls from them and stucco the outer skin. Talk about insulation. :thumbup

He lives "Off Grid"... Solar panels that had to come from Government Surplus.
His Power is so over kill, he heats water, in such an amount, he runs it in the floor, to heat his house, as well as the other hot water needs.

Stay away, too close! I bet you'd like the west side of the valley from Stonyford to Red Bluff. Somewhat remote but less than 15 miles to a significant town. Any further north and the air quality suffers as everything packs in at Redding, get hotter and more stale air.
