My staple is Montana Banana’s slab-style thin cut EXTRA HOT. Available at BevMo, and Amazon. Not sure who else stocks it.

That’s all I can truly vouch for. I’ve had other decent jerky, but would love to find one that can beat Montana Banana’s version listed above. Please, share any great jerky in this thread.

I like to get some cheap beef from my Chinese butcher, have them slice it super thin on the slicer and then marinate with a variation of Alton Brown's recipe before dehydrating.

Is this discussion strictly beef, or can other meats play?

I'm a big fan of Simm's Artisan Jerky Spicy Garlic Pork Jerky. I'm sure some people will complain about the amount of flavor added to the meat, but it's just fine by me.

Country Archer used to make a Sweet Jalapeno jerky (beef I think) that was super good. I don't think they produce it anymore. Jerks.

I keep getting ads for an alternate method of preserving meat called biltong. Seems like its beef jerky for raw denim enthusiasts.

Anyone have thoughts on it?

What the hell is up with that. I'm getting a lot of those ads on FB too. Never clicked or shown an interest in it but everyday there they are.

I keep seeing them on insta. Your description is :rofl

Mine is whatever brand is next to the cash register when I get a forty, a pack of smokes, and a scratcher....

Wait, I don't smoke.

My local grocery chain sells a package of it under the store's brand label. I tried it once. It's softer and wetter than jerky, with sort of an oily texture. Not as salty or flavorful in general - more meat flavor and less seasoning.

Not bad but I just don't know what the fuss is all about.

Jerky - steak dinner for motorcycle campers that forgot to bring a steak and a cast iron skillet. :teeth

As mentioned, making jerky is very easy and very inexpensive.

What kind of cuts do people use when they make jerky?
London broil? (cheapest)
Or something else?

I've made it in the past using just store bought teryaki sauce and round steak cut in to strips. Hung them from the oven rack with toothpicks, then left them in for probably too long.

But it came out passable to be sure.

It's been a while but usually no need to get "good" cuts as the marinade works as the tenderizer so round steak as mentioned works well.
