Lamb burger yumm. Do you slaughter the lamb yourself?
No, my sister takes em to a guy when it's time. Multiple orders, etc etc. as she is in the business.

I'm making em tonight in fact as Ms BA has a hankerin. Unlike beef which is super simple recipe, I do a bit more with the lamb including small quantity of bread crumbs, mint, Worcester sauce, other spices savory and sweet, onion and of course garlic (I actually dig out a recipe for it, there might be an egg i there).. They are hard to keep from falling apart otherwise. Super filling too. It's hard to finish one. The challenge of doing a big batch is that the fat tends to catch on fire, even on my infrared which has not direct fire in contact with food (has a trough over the burners).

I don't know if they make em anymore, but Bear Republic used to make a decent one, but a tad bland.

Nucking Futs mix sounds fantastic.

I think it's a chain, but The Habit just opened up pretty much across the street from me in Santa Clara. Been pretty impressed the 2 times I've been so far. Fast food prices but tastes more like Red Robin.

I was very, very disappointed in Habit. Carl's Jr is better.

Have any of you guys tried the squeeze inn in Tracy or the Awful Awful in Reno? Awful Awful is up there for me.

I tried the Squeeze Inn in Roseville this week. All the hype and doesn't really deliver. I was disappointed.

I voted for the Counter as I recently went in there and got a darn good burger. Way overpriced.

I agree, but in all fairness, the poll would probably exceed the number of options if all good burger joints were listed.

I'm going to add in a place I never expected to have a good burger, Forge in Jack London.
Yep, the max I can list is 18...
I didn't know that pizza joint makes burgers. I been there twice.

Marin Sun Farms has an amazing lamb burger. I think they do goat, too.
I keep hearing about Marin Sun Farms is the best because they get everything from their farm. So, you can't get any fresher than that.

Fo' realz. I heard good things, went there and was massively underwhelmed. I won't be going back. It was 100% mediocre. It wasn't bad, per se, just not good. Srsly, the CJ's near me is on par with Habit, tho I've only been to one. Maybe just the one I went to sucks.

Me either. Been there a bunch of times and finally just wasn't in the mood for their pizza, which I really don't care for in general. There it was, a burger, and it was good.

Jesus Christ a lot of you like shitty burgers joints. The counter? 5 Guys? Habit? GTFO with that crap. Enjoy your shipped in frozen meat patties! I don't care if all your veggies are organic and natural or omg fresh fries, if you don't make the burger meat on site then GTFO!

Go to Mo's in Campbell, Acme Burger in SF or Naglee Garage in San Jose for a real hamburger that aren't shipped frozen and made on site.

Meh...

Man, I had someone flip out on me when I said they were overrated. Don't get me wrong, I'll eat it, but it's not mouthgasmic. There's much better out there.

National Cheeseburger Day is a week away and I wanted to know what you guys think is the best burger joint? Like any American, I do love a burger but I do limit myself once a week or once every two weeks. Since I live in Hayward, I usually go to Val's and their bacon cheeseburger is absolutely delicious. Their milkshakes are the bomb. I only been to one burger joint in SF and couple around the bay area. Right now, for me, the Chop Bar in Oakland has the best bacon cheeseburger.

I created a poll and tried to include all the restaurants in the bay area. If it is not on the list. Just mention them in your post and I will edit my first put with the name and count.
I should mention that really big chain restaurants will not be in the poll. In-N-Out, Nations, Five Guys, etc... Should be another thread.

Extended Poll:
Nations - 2

I live in Hayward and I live near Val's and used to eat there a lot until a friend hipped me to Buddy's Bites and Brews down on Heperian. The owner worked for Buffalo Bills for a long time and used that as a model for his restaurant. The difference between his place and Val's is that he has these sauces for the burgers that really make the burger stand out. Its not just the old ketchup and mustard burger. I'd definately give Buddy's a try for the burger, for the brew and they do a really fun trivia night on weds!

I agree, Yak. Ever since the health craze, and the reduction of fat marbling in US beef grades, to me, beef is just not as flavorful as other meats. I mean, I truly appreciate that my family produces grass-fed beef and I live on it, but for pure flavor, lamb can't be beat. Minimal seasoning. Yum. I usually go through the birthday lamb by late summer then just buy another if she has a second crop. I barbecue it all summer....
I think some people just really do not like the fat flavor and smell, and that negative connotation is all that it takes to turn them off to the otherwise delicious red meat. Also, if you have eaten older animals, right up to mutton, the smell penetrates more into the tissues.

Sure makes a good curry, too and countless stuffings for different middle eastern stuff.
