aren't most japanese restaurants owned by Koreans/Chinese in the Bay Area...?:laughing

this thread is getting me hungry....

what I miss most is good ol' fashion Ochazuke....now that's something I still remember from Japan....

Yup. Had some sushi last night in WC. Chinese sushi chefs. Not bad quality fish.

I miss oyakudomburi. :x

Sure we should do a Ramen ride. We should do it at night and wear minimal gear. Nothing like hot ramen when your nuts have receded.

Ra-men Ryu-ai-das! :laughing

now I'm hungry.
gyoza I pan fry quick then steam covered.
but that's definately a chinese food - from dim sum.
the shrimp siu mai version at Maruwa is really good muchie food :) :) :)

I'll try Ryowa. Prices?

I was at Ryowa in Mountain View yesterday night.

Bowl of ramen: $6.50
Extra Noodle: $1.00
6 Gyoza: $4.50

All you can eat Kimchee: Priceless

That place rawks!

I frequent this place often. Lunch specials are a great deal. $7.50 for bowl of ramen, side of gyoza, and bowl of fried rice.

Make sure you have sufficient food coma recovery time.

Never been to the one in Berkeley but a quick google reveals:

Bentobandit is up for it.

This coming Sat may not work so well as I think that I will try to go to the supercross thing after the ride but the week after is a potential win.

John (V4) and Jason (budbandit),

I know absolutely fork oil about Japanese food, but like to try new stuff and have a broad palate of tastes.

How about a Ramen Ride where we stop off in Mountain View at the end of a saturday loop and you guys can show us what on earth you're talking about.

wat da.....shattuck and university and i never seen/heard of it?....wow i gotta go check that out today!....heck maybe even a few hours......if its good then I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Shattuck and University!?!?

Surely there's nothing good there....
I lived there for 4 yrs

HAHAHA I lived in 2070 University for 4 years.. this place has to be new.

Sapporo-Ya ramen in SF in J-Town

Hand made noodles that are silky smooth, with a perfect broth as well as home made and hand cut chasu that melts in your mouth. Sapporo-Ya all the way, have been meaning to hit up a place called Santa? in San Mateo, that comes highly recommended by some Japanese friends of mine. Have not tried Ryowa, but will certainly travel for good noodles. :thumbup

Been to that one, the soup was not nearly as good as at Sapporo. I had the shoyu ramen, and the soup was cloudy and salty. The Sapporo broth is clear and refreshing, with just the right amount of flavor (for me). The noodles were also disappointing, as they were a bit on the soft side, and obviously out of a package. I have not yet returned there, and I live 5 minutes away. I'd rather trek into the city to get my fix as of now. ;) Just my $.02

IIRC, wasn't there a place on irving that had a ramen noodle shop that's supposed to be good? i read a review of it in the paper a few yrs. ago.

Bap... hit me up... We'll go to Santa together.

The whole reason why I started this thread, however, is because I'm pissed off about Santa's service. The food is GREAT but they run out of noodles early and flavors too. You need to get there by 8:00pm to insure you'll get a bowl.. They close at 9:30...

Yes I'm serious!!...

I tried Ryowa in Berkeley.

It was OK. Not the worst but not the best. Definitely some sort of packaged noodles, and pretty oily tasting. Sort of pasty and powdery too. I guess that's what you guys mean by cloudy?

I tried the Karaage fried chicken, it was (IMO) HORRIBLE. Salty, came served up on lettuce with fuckin mayonnaise (YUCK) and was crispy and just not the same Karaage that I'm used to.

Definitely a Korean run imposter operation, not what I was looking for!

Aight, keep me updated on the Ramen ride!

So far the only ramen I've had are the ones that come out those square packages that have scribblings I can't read. :laughing
