best luggage for a sport bike?

I've got the Ventura rack system on my SV. It's not to expensive and super versatile. The bag slips over a loop and clips on - very secure and easy to remove. The pic shows the medium sized bag, I also have a larger one that sits on the passenger seat and leaves a small rack out the back. After the tour, I put on the sport bag - it's small and very convenient around town. Two bolts and the whole system comes off entirely, so it's easy to take your "tourer" to the track! :)

Also a good word for RKA. Richard and Kathy are local and their gear is top notch! :thumbup

CJ

PS - I picked up the Ventura at California Sport Touring in Hercules, they price this out below MSRP.

Cheap alternative: on the R1 I just bungie a backpack onto the tail section.

Just make sure the backpack is secured, for example by running the bungie through the backpack straps. Nearly lost a backpack at highway speed ages ago. Saw it flapping in the wind about to escape.

Don't do it.

I once had a camera bag slide back off the Passenger seat, and get sucked into the swingarm / tire area - while doing 145 mph. The result was quite spectacular to say the least.

ventura bags are nice but $$$. I have the setup for my superduke but it does NOT fit if you have aftermarket mufflers.

I'm thinking we must approach "bungie" differently. When I'm done the bag isn't going anywhere - 4 bungie cords total with two going through a convenient loop on the front of the pack as "just in case". Of course YMMV, but I've never had it budge even a little bit :dunno

Funny, thats what I thought when I strapped mine on at the start of that trip:rofl

Hell, I used to go Abalone diving / Camping with all my gear straped on the back of the 'ol CB750F.

I don't know about anyone else, but I always see lost / broken / dead bungees on the side of the highway.:ride

Check out my thread on how to make some fail-safe cargo straps.

Another recommendation for the Cortech Sport bags. The saddle and tailbag all lock together, and the tailbag does expand. You can get a lot stuffed in them. Along with a tankbag, it should provide you with enough room for your adventure (don't over-pack).

"Cargo" brand bags are on clearance at CycleGear right now. No personal experience, but if you are looking for something cheap and quick, that might cover you.

specifically:

Years ago we did 1200 miles in 4 days. 300 of those miles were in the pouring rain and our luggaged clothes stayed dry. Highly recommended.

+1 on Luggage Locker. I have their Elite Seat Sak (http://www.luggagelocker.com/luggage-elite-seat-sak.htm) for my Speed Triple and really like it. These are bike specific and are designed to attach to the rear seat of your bike.

Thread revival!!

Been doing a lot of long distance stuff lately now that the weather has warmed up a lil and it never fails that when I'm stopping to rest or get fuel, somebody asks me about my luggage as they've rarely seen fully loaded sport bikes.

I answer they're questions and show 'em the bags but figured I'd post my setup on here.

Anyways, I've found these bags to be the perfect setup for me.
www.rka-luggage.com. I use the Tank bag for daily use.

With all 4 bags combined and expanded, I can carry plenty of stuff for multi day trips. The tank bag expanded allows me to carry all my work clothes (Pants, shirts, skivvies, socks) and some other misc. items.

Here is a pict of the bags on my old 636. My current one is the same year but is now green and black.
If anybody is still looking for luggage for their bikes, there are a bunch of options. This option just fits me and my needs perfectly and I like the quality of the RKA stuff.

Rear (Saddle bags are sitting a bit low and need to be up higher but u get the point) Oh, Bike has been totaled,:thumbdown so I don't care about the tag being visible. Also, this bag fits my bike with the stock rear turn signal stalks. :nerd

After the ZX6R was totaled, I got a Z1k. Bags swapped over with no problem. :thumbup

Very nice setup! :thumbup I'm especially interested in that tankbag; the plastic tank cover of my CBR precludes the use of any of the magnetic types.

I used a set of Cortech's for my so far only long-distance round trip to Vegas and back in 2006:

Not into Gsxr's but yours is super clean! Love that exhaust!!! :thumbup

With the ZX6R's 1/2 metal tank and plastic airbox, I can't fit a magnetic tank bag without it flying off. I have to have it strapped down.
I also used to use a cargo net, still do if in a pinch, but ever since I had one let go and fling my stuff under the rear tire @ 75mph, I've been super leary about them. Hell, I won't even get on the hgwy with a cargo net on.

The bag I have is great but I really want one of their new Tech bags. Has mounts and everything to run GPS, PTT Walkie etc.. plus they even now have a Camelback style bladder that fit's in the bag so you don't have to carry a hydration pack on your back. Pretty nifty!

By chance, anyone doing a run down and back to Death Valley? Always wanted to do that run.

That Beemer looks super comfy!!!

The Cortech Sport Series worked pretty well for my needs on a 5.5-day, 1600-mile trip:

That top pic looks like Hwy 36 west bound.

I too run the Cortech sport bags with thier "duffel" style tail bag. Works great and was cheap.

Check the linked thread in my previous post for more info and pics...

I really really like Marsee stuff, after trying other brands. Difinately consider Givi if you are going to use it more than a few times. Also Aerostitch has quite a few bag choices in their catalog.

Always great seeing sport bikes loaded down and rollin' the fu*k out!! Def sometimes not the most comfy but once you hit those twistys....mmmm...heaven!!
