Best Supermoto or Motard for the Highway

It makes no sense to bash the 690SM just because one somehow feels SMC is "better". I didn't want to pay the high price of a 690SMC, so I got a 690SM at a great deal. The 690SM looks and functions like a very light weight adventure bike, i.e., a terrific street bike, without the pretension of looking like a convert dirt racer. The handling is crisp, with enough suspension to give the sensation of endless traction and clearance in the turns when carving up goat roads. It's a great step up from a DRZ400sm - much better power and brakes, a 6th gear to better handle the freeway, at about the same gas mileage.

Right, it is because the SMC is better.

Explains the defensiveness.

There is no pretension. The SMC shares the chassis with the Enduro, which is (if you ever paid any attention to Paris Dakar or anything of the sort) truly a top performer in its class.

The SMC is all that but better:
  • fuel (and throttle) map switch
  • fully adjustable suspension
  • more suspension travel
  • higher ground clearance

And more as the link above points out.

I agree. Most people who have owned both know the difference. Me being one for example. Sm was cool but nothing like the smc by any means. Not even in the same category.

I want an SMC now!

I want an SMC now!

i would have traded for your hyper! plus cash from me of course! :ride

I know. I was surfing CL last night...they're still around $7k-ish for a 2008. Must be a badass bike.

They are high in demand and prices have gone up significantly. do I dare mention that brand new in '08 the MSRP of the 690 SMC was $8999!:wow

Hey Stan! Yeah as much as I really want the SMC right now, I can't see giving up the Hypermotard as I love it too much. I know they are different bikes which is why I'm trying to add the SMC to the stable instead of doing a trade for it.

Believe me when I saw your bike posted, I was very tempted.
