There was a thread a couple of years ago about this but maybe something has changed...

I want to wash my mesh jacket and pants without ruining them. After the armor is removed one method is to use a washing machine on a handwash cycle, no dryer, hang dry.
Another method (my favorite so far) is to hand wash everything in a bathtub with just a little detergent, rinse the heck out of it and hang to dry.

My gear isn't waterproof so I don't need to worry about that. Just want to freshen up my stuff.

How do you wash your gear? What do you recommend for a cleaning agent?

Usually a laundromat big washer with the jacket in a laundry bag with some towels for cushions. Or the car wash cause the armor can stay in.

I remove the armor and put it in my front loader. Add some peroxide tabs to help remove bug guts. Use the bulky setting. Air dry.

Regular laundry detergent?
No bleach of course.

I pull out the pads and toss the mesh in the washer with a little detergent on gentle cycle.

Helmet I pull out the liner and put it inside a pillow case. Again toss it in the washer on gentle with a little detergent.

I hang dry everything outa direct sunlight after washing.

I leave my gear hanging out overnight after wearing it to dry both here in Thailand and in the Sacramento Valley (summer) so I'm not putting it away wet and sweaty.

The airbag is harder, I just try to scrub it with a sponge every month or so. But it doesn't really get clean.

Isn’t there a tag sewn into it with washing instructions?

I’d just throw it into a front loader, a machine without an agitator, and use Woollite. Hang to dry or use a dryer with no heat.

Is there any leather on it? If so, follow the manufacturers instructions.

And you might find washing instructions on the manufacturer’s website.

The wash tags give very little information and are in multiple languages so not much help. There is no leather, mesh only.

Today I pulled out the pads, filled the bathtub up half way with tepid water, added a small amount of liquid Tide and washed by pushing the jacket and pants down through the water repeatedly. No scubbing.
The wash water turned a nice light tan color so I knew it was working.

Finished with 2 cold water rinses and now they are hanging outside in the heat.

I'll check them tomorrow and report back. First time washing my gear so I wanted to check with the BARF brain trust before leaping off.

Oh thank god. I could smell your stinky gear from Oregon. :x :laughing

Hopefully that did the trick and got things clean enough for your liking.
