Hi people,

I am trying to get my dog here from Seattle. He currently lives with my wife there and is going to be living with me going forward. We plan to bring him here during the Memorial Day long weekend.

Whats the best way of getting him here? So far we have found the following:

1. By flight. But most airlines have weight/crate/kennel restrictions. Plus, my wife thinks it will be too much for her traveling alone with the dog for the first time.
2. Find someone on CL who is driving to bay area and willing to bring our dog with them.
3. There are a few pet shipping companies that we are talking to. They are charging anything between 200-500. Cost is not a concern but the dogs well being is.
4. I'll can fly to Seattle and the 3 of us can drive to San Jose then. (Thanks Tony for your response)

The dog is a goldendoodle, 5 months now, around 40 lbs, mid-sized.

Has anyone done this before? Any pointers? Thanks.

When you say pet shipping do they just use airlines? I wouldn't trust anyone to put my dogs in an airplane unless theyre sitting with the rest of the human passengers. I'm way too paranoid about them freezing to death.

Personally I'd make it a road trip and drive my dogs myself.

Almost all of them said they are not shipping by flight. They will drive to San Jose but that depends on how many dogs they can find to drive together. More the number of dogs, cheaper the cost.

If nothing works out, I'll have to fly to Seattle and the 3 of us can drive to San Jose then. A road trip would sure be fun :)

My brother flew his dog (wiener dog) back from Korea when he moved back to the states and it was EXPENSIVE and poor dog was locked up in a crate the whole flight.

Sounds like your best option and for the dog is for you to fly to Seattle and drive back. My sister did this when she moved from Seattle back to Sacramento. Good luck!

You could probably contact a few dog breeders in Washington and ask how they transport their dogs. They may have a few trustworthy contacts since I know Dogs get transported often for breeding and shows.

Ahh, good idea. Will make some calls. Thank you.

Yes but I am trying to keep this as the last option if nothing works out. I am moving to a new place and won't have time to fly there and drive back :(

Sell Seattle dog, buy new dog here.

:teeth

Well, I'm sure there's a college kid somewhere in Seattle who will be coming home for the summer to somewhere in the bay area. Might be worth a shot seeing as finals are starting real soon!

We bought our dog from a breeder in Tampa. She was flown out here in a crate when she was 8 weeks old...no worries.
