Bicycle Lights

Look into one of those cheap reflective vests too. Neon green with the stripes, they're like 4 or 8 bucks at Osh, Home Depot, etc.

Put reflective straps around your ankles, the motion helps. I also clip a red strobe to the ankle straps. I have a Nite Ryder headlamp that works great.

CRAP!...someone just showed me one of these:

Damn, that looks too good to be true if I'm reading it right. Have you seen it in person?

Cannot go wrong with this. Easy to mount anywhere, battery life is pretty good and this thing can be visible from far away.

I have two lights: One mounted on the handle bars and the other one under the seat. Both lights seem to do the trick. Also, take a look at Timbuk2 bags that come with reflective material.

If it's all on the road, get some kind of LED lighting. Modern LEDs will make you visible to cars and provide a bit of road lighting if you're not flying.

For rear lights, any of the $10-$15 LED blinkers are fine. For the front, it's worth getting something in the $35-$50 range that has "superbright" LEDs. Removable, rechargeable AA NiMH batteries are fine, but if you want you can spend a little extra LiIon which are usually built in and you needto recharge the whole unit.

I think the expensive Lithium lights are better if you're riding pretty fast, or if you're out in the country where there isn't a lot of ambient light. Otherwise, a Petzl headlamp or some Durracell light work ok.

Do they still make those generator lights like I had on my bike back in the 70's?

The generator spun on your tire to make power, but when you came to a stop, so did your light.
