I was coming home from work today in my truck because I need to do work on the bike. Guy comes up splitting on a big bike (silver, fully dressed). I move into shoulder and give him space to split past, then I back way off when he decides to merge into my lane. He eventually split past the car in front of me, then disappears in the distance. 5-10 minutes later, traffic stops. The left lane is closed because the same guy is down. Cops had lane blocked and ambulance got there as I was watching.

What pisses me off is the ambulance driver made no attempt to get there quickly. An emergency road vehicle went in the shoulder to get to the front almost instantly. For a long time, I could see the ambulance sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. No lights, no nothing. He could have been there in seconds, but instead he spent at least 10 minutes in traffic, taking his sweet time.

Is there anyway that the ambulance driver didn't know about it? Really? Could he have been driving an ambulance with no radio on and it was simply a coincidence that he was there?

Best wishes to the rider, and to the ambulance driver, if you were called and that's the best you could do, you need to throw in the towel and get another job.

that sucks hope hes alright

saw it too on my way home. poor fella was lying on his back on the tarmac. fortunately though, i saw him moving his arms. i guess that's a good sign.

but wasn't it 24 E?

The Caltrans vehicle got to the scene before the ambulance?:wtf

You are right my friend. I was 24 E. Must've let my blood sugar get too low at the gym, got me; directions backwards in stuff. Doh!

Hope the guy's OK... that sucks. Any sign of what may have caused the crash?

my guess is it was someone not checking their blind spot and changing lanes. maybe a cell phone? hmm...

it was jammed from the Caldecott. usually after the tunnel, it speeds up a bit but this time, it was unusually slow. i saw at least 10 bikes lane-splitting. I guess he was doing the same thing till he got clipped.

he was riding a Harley. very stocky fella if you ask me. I hope he's alright. :(
