Did you actually do a tailpipe sniffer test before and after? I'm curious how you know it had fewer emissions after the modifications.

i used a smog machine to test it in order to get the mixture correct.. ie.. lean/rich. it was running too rich before, and that is the way they ship from italy. that's the only way they can get them to pass the epa noise requirement.

I wish some of these idiots that are passing around these rumors worked in the industry.

First, the DCA/BAR and EPA are only just now drafting the guidelines for Smog 2010.

YES, Light Duty Diesels are on the list. Their test setup, is unknown (as a final wording yet). Motorcycles, have been hinted at, with NO RULES or ideas as of yet. So far they are thinking its a safety concern to even bother currently. - Anything more then a tailpipe (non loaded mode) or visual inspection that is.

Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are subject to opacity testing and have been for quite a while.

Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:

* Hybrid
* 1975 year model or older
* Diesel powered
* Electric
* Natural gas powered and has a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 14,001 lbs. or more.
* Motorcycle
* Trailer

Now, do alot of people cheat that test, or not even have it done and well... falsify the paperwork. You betcha.

DCA/BAR is working harder to reduce the amount of cheating going on in the system. That is basically all that is happening.

If you really want to bitch, why not blame all the people responsible for the cheating, that is causing the changes?

I really dont think smogging bikes is the end of the world. I'm sure that there will be a grandfather clause in the new law exempting bikes of a certain age. All the new bikes on the market have to comply to European smog standards, which are considerably more stringent than CARB standards, so we wont be seeing any drop in performance. Maybe this will be good for our sport/hobby/lifestyle. Just think of all the $ that will be saved from not blinging out bikes. Maybe that $ can go into gear and trackdays. Maybe more people will learn how to actually ride their bikes instead of just put obnoxious pipes on them. Maybe Im just dreaming.
