Am I getting old?

I've heard about this person, and decided to listen.

I actually got a headache from the first song. On both songs it sounded like my speakers were torn.

What am I missing?

When Amy Winehouse died I listened to some of her music and promptly bought all her albums.

I kinda like Billie Eyelash for what she is.

That's a frightening thought. Why would anyone hate five pounds of microwaved liver and a bungee cord?

Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful Canadian rock bands, having sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.[1] In 2009, Billboard ranked them the most successful rock group of that decade; their song "How You Remind Me" was listed as the best-selling rock song and the fourth best-selling song of the decade overall. They were listed number seven on the Billboard top artist of the decade, with four albums listed on the Billboard top albums of the decade.

Two of her more popular songs, 'Bad Guy' and ' You Should See Me In a Crown' use distorted, low bass for a significant part of their sound. It's catchy music made from odd sounds and there's a lot going on there despite being really minimal. I don't care for a lot of her music, but it's some of the most interesting pop music I've heard in a long time.

It's also noteworthy that she's 19 years old - AFAIK she does all of her own songwriting and she does the engineering with her brother. Not bad for someone that young. Whether she burns out or she'll have a long career is anyone's guess.

Maybe give "everything I wanted" a listen before you write her off. Its a great song but it's a little too sad for me.

Listen to her live stuff, much better than her releases IMO.

I'm still not a fan but she's got talent.

I like her music thus far, especially when its framed by any of the other current music her contemporaries are churning out.

Whenever discussing music, it's important to realize the Your Favorite Band Also Sucks

This is just a hunch but my guess is that Billie Eilish is the product of parents who were listening to Nine Inch Nails in the house when she was growing up.

Maybe not true but its fascinating to think about.

It's definitely different, and interesting, at least to me. And I do always have a higher degree of respect for artists who also write their own songs.

:laughing

I never really thought about that, but it would make sense.

Selling depressing music to depressed teenagers is like shootin' fish in a barrel...

I hear it more as background music, doesn't really stand out either way. I also don't believe I'm part of the target audience.

Look more like TOOL fans... :laughing

Billie's parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell are both popular figures in the entertainment industry. Billie's mother is an actress, having worked on shows like L.A. Law, Murphy Brown, Bones, The X Files and Six Feet Under. She's also a voice actor and has voiced several video games. Billie's dad is also an actor and has appeared in shows like The West Wing and Supergirl, and also appeared in 2008's Iron Man.

"everything I wanted" still too much wah wah and distortion, but if she sang a more conventional style....

I think her parents listened to Smashing Pumpkins

That's a bit harsh. Her demons are real. She's more interesting if there's a suicidal kid in your family.
