BILT, the new Anti Status Status Symbol?

Got a dirt bike on loan for a year.

I'm on a budget, it was wear my street helmet or Bilt.

49.99 and it seems to work well to me.

I don't care about labels or what other people think. As long as it works.

After riding in the sierra's for 6 days in 75-105+ weather I am impressed. Was soaked in sweat, dirt, guts etc, and after one wash it looked new. Seams and zippers holding up to expectation! Was wearing heat out under armor, so was pretty much soaked but cool the duration of the adventure.. Pleased with purchase? Very much so. :thumbup

Nice! I will say that I've heard front loaders are better washing machines for textile wear (the agitator can often wind a leg or arm up undr and tear it up). But I'm guessing it's a pain to go to a coin-op, if you have a washer at home.

So Cycle Gear now lists the Explorer jacket at $400, and the pants at $360.

Am I crazy, or does anyone remember Cycle Gear having an introductory sale where if you bought one piece, you got the rest of the suit free? Also, I seem to remember the prices being even lower...

I see the jacket listed at $179.99 on their website and the pants at $149.99. Not bad, really.

Oh how times change. When the $400 deal first came up, I posted it on Barf to see what folks thought...the vast majority of folks railed on Bilt products and how much hunks of crap they were. I went ahead and bought the set after trying the pieces on and have been reasonably pleased with the performance/price ratio.

These are on regular offer at CG online and in B&M stores.

If you're not in a rush, wait them out and the deals will come around again. Sign up for their emails so you get notified of upcoming deals.
Last one I saw was for 2 days in late July where everything "explorer" was half-off.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" is NOT true. It's easy to pay too much for overpriced, overhyped crap.

It should instead be "you don't get what you don't pay for".

There you have my pearl of wisdom for today. :)

I have had a TourMaster textile jacket/pants set and a Klim textile jacket/pants set. Both will do the job in most situations and are decent kit, but there is a huge difference in features, performance and quality between the two. There is a reason they are priced very differently and it's not the logo on the sleeve.

I'm not knocking the cheaper stuff, but you do actually get more when you pay more in most situations related to riding gear. After owning a Klim jacket, I could never go back to the cheaper stuff. And given how durable it seems to be, I expect it'll be a really long time before I even have to make that decision.

:laughing too true. Sadly, there is some truth to the lack of quality in SOME of the BILT/Sedici gear, the leathers I got when I first started riding had zippers that sucked... but that does not mean they haven't addressed those issues with the newer gear. But, you have to admit, when you spend $400 on something and it doesn't work out, it tends to leave a sour taste in your mouth.

I have to bump this thread!

BILT made a billboard in Pakistan
Ignore the time stamp that's a couple of BARFers!

Khan and Protokulper(got that wrong I think :facepalm)

While it isn't Bilt, I recently picked up some of their Cold Out gear and it works great. <$50 OTD and it worked very well. I had perforated leathers on, and a naked bike, but I was just a little chilly at freeway speeds in 52F weather and enough fog that my leathers were soaked. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't bad in heat either.

got some bilt tempest boots to go along with my ragged sedici gloves. they match pretty good with my vanson leathers hahaha

The Heat-Out/Freeze-Out stuff works damn good. Even the moto mags (while they swallow hard doing so) concede the shit is well made, works well and is surprisingly affordable.

Oh wow... that's so cool!!! :thumbup

I tried a bunch of BILT stuff. I didn't like the helmets at all. I'd consider wearing the other gear maybe.

But the helmets? No fuckin way unless they were 50 bucks. I don't care about the brand name. I'd wear a helmet that said CUNT on it if I thought it was good.

I'm probably the last person to figure this out, but when the ladies buy stuff at Target they jokingly say they got it at "Targee" to class it up a bit. Like a French pronunciation.
What if the same logic was used on Bilt gear?
Nice "Bilee" boots Dave!
I can live with that.
On a side note I've installed a few Scala G9 Systems on Bilee modulars that require partial disassembly to do a nice job, and they really are not the winning team quality wise. Just an opinion.

I started out with a Bilt helmet I got for $40 and still use it once in a while. It actually worked quite well and appeared better than some other high end helmets I've tried. I now am in love with my Nolan Trilogy though so the Bilt doesn't get much use.

I have used Bilt boots (the rainproof touring boots) I got for $40 as well for about 10k miles and had to replace them because the sole of one boot wore through where it sits on the pegs. Just rode to Cyclegear, took them off, and put on a new pair they gave me and left. Hard to argue with their 5 year warranty.

Thank you.
I am now wiping peanut butter sandwich off of my keyboard and screen.
As a punishment for your indiscretion, I am now adding this quote to my signature line.

Hand it over
