bitcoins

Think so? It's exactly what anyone should expect. I think RCB nailed it, except for the "disrupt the institutions" part. I don't think the majority of people get that far along in their thoughts before rejecting it. Either way, this is all totally normal for the two main sides of; this-will-go-on-forever and get-off-my-lawn.

A healthy conversation is great but everyone other post with comments of "its a bubble" gets old. It stagnates the conversation.

Then you get people coming in just trolling, Hi Redrum. Nothing to discuss, just drive by trolling. It doesn't help the conversation at all.

What do you guys think of Monero?

Isn't the purpose of crypto to decentralize the banking institution. Wouldn't Visa be drawing you right back in?

Is Monaco forked from Monero? Looks interesting and I think Panthera uses a BTC card as well.

For me, I look at crypto as an appreciating asset and would rather save it over spend it. But I know the crypto world needs more spenders, so it is sort of a double edged sword.

It's just a way to pay for something. Think ease of use. Visa isn't the bank, I don't have to use Visa to spend the crypto, it's just an option. There are also many benefits to the card but I won't get into them here.

You do bring up a good point about decentralization. There are many coins out there that actually want to be someone centralized.

But he is handsome.

New things are scary. I think skepticism and education are both important on things like crypto currency and blockchain.

Some folks, on both sides, should take time for a bit of skepticism and education.

The way I view the bubble comments and general criticism from traders/economists and the like is two fold. They fear something that could disempower or disrupt the institutions that they have studied, supported and profited from. However, they also know a lot more about financial institutions and may have a perspective, of a bubble for instance, that is totally valid and true.

Truth likely lies somewhere in the middle between crypto fanatics and neo-liberal economists.

Almost every economic sector experiences bubbles.

It remains to be seen if fortunes will be made and sustained or if it falls apart and ruins people like WebVan.

As for Monero, it's a legit player IMO. I have been mining for a little while. No super rig yet, getting there.

What's your hardware/hashrate?

Not awesome, older i7 and CPU only ~100H/s but just started and playing until I figure things out more and build a real rig it kinda doesn't count :) Gotta commit to spending some coin on hardware and the time to config.

My buddy and I have had some deep convos lately about the economy and profitability of it all and may set up a few rigs (not in Cali where KWH is expensive). Also which coins are best bang for buck, longevity/viability, etc. Not just from mining perspective but also pure investment.

Same hack; same coin

NiceHash said:
unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.

Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.

Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.

We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.

We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.

While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.

We will be having another crypto meet at Phis in San Mateo on Saturday at 9am again this weekend if anyone is interested. B st location. Any interest level is accepted. Beginners to miners.

Im tempted to burst this bubble by buying a mining machine. $2000 bitcoin the day after I'm up and running.

I wonder if one of the reasons there is a buying frenzy is because people are loosing faith in USD.

With many of the online cryptocoin repositories getting hacked where should you store your stuff?

Offline on a USB stick - only plug-in when you need to onload-offload coin?

Offline on air-gapped computer? Only plug-in when you need to onload-offload coin?
