bitcoins

The bithumb site shows $17k, will be interesting to see if that's roughly where it goes tomorrow.

Anyone know if the Dragonmint miners shipped a batch? They used to have an estimated ship date, but now they've changed to unknown. Was wondering if that means they shipped a batch and it's unknown because they're working on dates right now, or if they're having trouble with the batch that was already due..?

Mine have not even been made. I've been in contact with the makers and they will be in my hands in Apri.

Here comes the peanut gallery again :laughing

I missed the nadir while shopping. LTC hit 225 was the lowest I saw. Told myself I'd buy 3 more if it got to 200. Now it's 280 :nchantr

Always buy the dips. Even if it is only a few bucks worth. My purchase is up 1700 so far in the last 24 hours. I will add it to my debit card. I havent used any cash or credit card in 4 months. Im still riding on the original .55 btc I put on in the end of August. That was only worth $2600 usd at the time. I have .19 on it now worth $2900 and Ive spent $5000 so far.
If you get the Shift card you will actually accrue small bits of btc as you use the card and btc goes up in price. Keep putting your spendable cash on it weekly and use it as you would any other card. As the price increases you will be left with small bits in there. Do this weekly to minimize you downside risk. Eventually you may never have to add any more btc if the price keeps going up. If it goes to shit, oh well you didnt really lose anything as you are doing it weekly.

Its all listed in every transaction receipt the price of btc at the time of purchase. I just pick the latest btc purchase as the tax lot I use. Very simple. Also Im waiting for a bill to be passed that would make any purchase less than $600 free from capital gains on the increase. Hopefully it passes or otherwise I'll just keep doing the math and pay my part.

So it's manual process?
I thought there was an API that would do it? I think you or someone else has mentioned it.
Which bill?

Just another dip of the crypto. Hope people just hodl or got in at low prices. I was fortunate enough to make some serious moves and profit nicely from them. First time really taking advantage of the dip and it paid off.

Someone was asking about tracking your profit. Excel sheets or bitcoin.tax so far. Let me know if there is something better. My poor cpa is going to hate me.

I'm not familiar enough, but the best cap gains tracking software out there is called Tradelog. It tracks every purchase and sale, including all wash sales, in every account you have and totals them across the board, making adjustments as needed. It also tracks IRA's, and downloads data from the broker. (But I doubt the Bitcoin brokers will be part of their list yet). However if you can download your transaction on an xcel sheet, Tradelog can import it. I've down my trades on it for years.

Thanks Ernie. :thumbup

I haven’t been day trading, I proved to myself that I’m not good at it years ago, but I have a few transactions for 2017 that will probably require some sort of tracking.

Tradelog is great, but if there's return of capital involved it's still a spreadsheet calculation!
