My parents may be putting up for sale their 1998 BMW 528i and have asked me to try and research a value.

I know there are some car gurus here so what say you?

Its a 1 owner car with 68k original miles, driven by a little old lady, automatic, 6 cyl. and always been garaged

My ex-wife totaled that exact car several years ago. I was shocked by how little she got for it.
Is yours grey?
They all seem to be grey.

Somewhere around $7k plus or minus a grand.

Its Silver with a black leather interior and I think they had sheepskin covers on the front since new

Non-M series BMWs don't hold their value very well, because people know maintenance costs are high. BMWs seem to shed water pumps, fuel pumps, coils, sensors, gaskets, control arms, and bushings more frequently than the average Japanese car does.

I have a fleet of old BMWs. I love them but something always needs replacing.

Older Bimmers are actually more reliable than the newer ones. All that plastic under the hood crumbles over time.

BMW E39 chassis are still the best designed BMW. I had a 2000 540i 6 speed and M5 in good condition are going up in price.

What's the overall condition? How does the windshield and rear class rubber trim look? Garaged? Maintenance records? Accident history? Asking all these questions cause color combo it good and miles are good. If the other items are solid as well, I'd put it up on C&B for a sale. Probably looking around $6-8K or so, like the others said....but the auction format may bring it more. Good pics are ESSENTIAL. There' are several good photogs on BARF that I've seen if one is needed.

I will trade them 35 nice crisp 100 dollar bills.

Serious offer.

I miss my M6

I own a 2003 E39 myself, and every time I drive it, I’m reminded why these cars are revered. The steering is tight and intuitive, the ride is balanced, and the cabin feels like it was built with intention—not just for comfort, but for connection. The 1998 model shares that DNA: timeless design, solid build quality, and a great driving experience.
These cars are very nice and it sounds like this one is clean with 68K miles and garage kept by mom….usually they are high mileage and have been well used.
