Yo. I would like to buy some street/commuter boots, already have a set for the track. I did a search, the threads I saw were from 2008 or so, and not exactly what I was looking for.

I am mainly interested in 3/4 cut or just some solid riding shoes. Something like in the 2 links below as far as cut/style (not leaning towards either of these though because of the comments about weak protection). My price range is $200 max, hopefully something under $150. Thanks for any thoughts.

Recommend sticking with Boots. Or maybe "Shoes" with knee and shin armor.

My Puma's are cheap and awesome for commuting.

Have a link by chance? A friend also suggested going with boots, I was thinking low-cut or shoes just because I already have track boots, and this new pair would mainly be used for commuting and occasional twisty rides.

Haha, finally going to get some better shoes, Jimmy? It'll stop me from cringing when you pull up in your usual riding gear!

LOL! Yeah I know, you and others have shamed me (by example) into getting better street gear...

Threadjack my own thread, but when you back? PM me, maybe a ride or two?

if u want actual ankle & foot protection, wear your track boots on the street. if u just want to look cooler and/or not tear up a pair of regular shoes, buy whatever u want.

Stick with boots just buy a good pair you can wear all day or bring shoes to change into while at work. I have a pair of Sidi Canyons and I love them. They are Gore-Tex thus waterproof and also don't get hot/smelly. I wear them all day in the city where I do quite a bit of walking at times, never been an issue.

You are simply not going to get a good quality shoe for that kind of cash typically. My boots were $299 retail but I got them cheaper as they were on sale. Shop around and get a good quality boot with a replaceable sole. If you commute a lot you will wear out your soles fast and you can simply have new ones put on if you buy the right boot. This means that though you make a larger investment up front, they will last you for years to come.

Granted, they are out of your price range, but I got the Daytona RoadStar, because when I bought them I wanted a boot to commute in that would also be comfortable enough to wear all day long and walk around. Guess what...I like them more than most of my regular shoes/boots....

Just two cents

LOL. Thanks for the fantastic insight...

There's a really cool pair of Cortech boots on Motorcyclegear.com for less than 150$. Those are next on my list. Look great for warm days, commuting, and track days.

Yea, get back August 22nd. I'll have a new rear tire waiting for me... going to get it put on the 23rd, then have that week to ride. My bike has to be at the shipping company in West Sac on the 30th and then I drive out the 31st. Anyway, I'll have a solid 6 days to ride as much as possible, so we can for sure get some miles in.

Oh, and for boots I was OK wearing a good pair of jungle boots (Altama) during my 75-80mph crash. They won't do much for you in terms of stopping an impact or twisting injury, but they held up just fine sliding across the pavement. I bought the Altama's since they have 4 rows of stitching and extra nylon directly covering the ankle... many of the other boots I tried lacked that extra material fully covering the ankle. They're super comfortable to wear all day. I was walking 7-10 miles a day in them when I was in Pittsburgh for a month and never had a problem. The downside is that you can't move your foot as easily on the peg. Now I wear my SIDIs for the twisty stuff and the jungles for around town or whatever.

Glad I made a point to get boots with some extra material over the ankle!

Riding shoes or even those Alpinstar things suck. They offer ZERO protection. Get real boots. You have a greater chance of fucking up your feet commuting than you ever have on the track.

Aerostich Combat Lites rock! They're made by Sidi to Aerostiches specs and feature speed laces (uber fast to cinch up), a quickly operated buckle like a ski boot, and Velcro for the uppers. Fast in and out and they're about the most waterproof boot out there. they'll take a little time to break in, but they really protect and they'll last years.

I was just in the market for some comfortable shoes that I can wear all day long at work and found a pair of Dainese Short Shift shoes. They're very comfortable and in your price range.

Thanks, look sweet, on the upper end of my price range, and will have to think about shoe v. boot.

What's there to think about?? Either you protect your feet or you don't. If you're going to buy one of those crappy motorcycling shoes or low boots, unless you really want the style or the brand on the footware, just by some high top tennis shoes. They'll protect about the same.

Don't cheap out on your gear. You may seriously regret it some day.

Or just wear your real motorcycle boots and change when you get to work. Keep a pair of shoes at work to slip into.

I would highly suggest wearing real boots rather than shoes. I can comfortably wear my Sidi Vertigo Corsas all day, on the bike or off. They aren't the most fashionable but I care more about protecting my feet and ankles than I do about how they look.

I managed to get them on ebay for cheap, $182 shipped a couple years ago. They've survived a couple crashes that have put me in the hospital for 3 days each.

My main point is that properly fitting boots should be comfortable to wear all day, and offer far superior protection to riding shoes.
