I routinely break laws, particularly in regard to vehicle code violations.
Today I passed over the yellow and exceeded the speed limit and pretty much don't give a damn. This is all on a 400 cc witch is really pushing the limits of what I can really do in regards to excessive performance.

do you think that performance gives you the "right" to blow by the proletariat
?

well ... maybe crossing the double yellow for less than 10 seconds is not really breaking the law?

We all have our own ideas of what is right and wrong. And we weigh that on the scales of justice, against what society as a whole views. We reason these things out in our own minds, to justify our actions. Like the thief who believes that Safeway is a big corporation, they can afford to take a loss, big stores have insurance, and you're not really hurting anybody.

I personally have zero respect for some laws. Penal code. Vehicle code. Health & safety. Fish & game. Whatever. Not every law applies to me. I will jaywalk. School zone signs don't mean anything to me at night, when there are no children in school. I will not put any money into a tip jar on the counter. I pee freely.

I too go faster than the posted speed limit, and cross double yellow lines. And it makes zero difference if I'm on my bike, or driving my truck. If you're doing the same thing, so be it. We catch each other head on. We both made our choices, and will have to live or die with the consequences.

Well, really, if you’re both doing the same thing, you pass each other on the wrong side of the road. If he’s obeying the law, he’s fucked.

the road out to our property is 10 miles of absolute perfection - like it was designed as a track. so yeah - i routinely break the law (exceed the speed limit by a more than fair amount). cross over the yellow though? that's a negative ghost rider. never have and never will.

on another note - adore you babe, but witch takes exception to inadvertent use of witch.

Laws, rules, are not absolute. They are just tools for dealing with problematic behavior.

I break speed limits pretty much every single time I operate a vehicle. But I make up for this lawlessness by not murdering people. Even the ones that should be murdered because they’re going 55 in the #1 lane when I’m coming up on them going 80.

Thought that only applies in Italy?? :p

Some guy in a brand new building-sized Chevy truck gave me the finger because I was only going 80 and he wanted to go 90, only it was that meek, passive aggressive bird against the glass just above the window sill :laughing

I think most if not all of us have a bit of "rational anarchy" in the way we approach laws.

I, for example, have no issues breaking speed limit laws, passing when it's safe to do so, etc.
but I never run a red light, i don't speed in school zones, am not reckless (at least to my standards) and am otherwise very much law abiding

and if you're in the #1 lane driving slow...off with your head! lol

I truly wish we could have some sort of federal or state campaign to encourage proper driving. like a billboard on the freeway talking about merging like a zipper, or drive right pass left, etc. Like how Germans drive, lol

+1 x 1000

When I'm breaking laws, I prefer everyone else to be following the law.

I frequently have no idea what the speed limit actually is when I'm riding. I just ride at a pace I'm comfortable with and pass when I have line of sight.

Greatest Internet post available today.

There is no, "I'm going fast enough," in the #1 lane. If you were in the way, you are the problem. Please refer to the DMV Handbook.

Kinda suggests laws are designed to fuck you. Maybe I'd feel better not knowing the law?

I was already going faster than the flow of traffic. Motherfucker didn't even give me a chance to get out of his way lol.

We have a cool law here that I like:
Idaho Code 49-654 subsection (2)(b) said:
Subject to all other applicable motor vehicles laws, a driver of a passenger car, motorcycle or pickup truck, not towing any other vehicle, may exceed the posted speed limit by up to fifteen (15) miles per hour while passing another vehicle traveling at less than the posted speed limit, in order to safely pass the vehicle.
Yeah, I might stretch it a bit on the "less than the posted speed limit" part, but the rest of it is nice.

As for solid yellow lines, I just make sure I can make a safe pass and don't worry too much about that. There are a few places with dashed lines where a pass is unsafe unless whoever you're passing is way under the speed limit.

Yes and no. I believe that Speed Laws are for cowards and the weak, but Stop Signs, Stop lights, and Double Yellows are things that I do not fuck with.

I also have very strong feelings about turn signals and working, visible brake lights. In my philosophy of The Holy Church of Acceleration, the most important thing for keeping pilots alive is a combination of road awareness and reliable anticipation of where other pilots will be.

This means planned stops, lane changes, etc, MUST be clearly communicated and performed with an agreed upon standard.

Man, am I more aware of laws than ever. We have only been living the LOTF for a week and I have to be super conscious of rolling/running stop signs, traveling through lights long after yellow has gone to red and generally everything I am doing wrong compared to how I have been driving in Mexico. Thank goodness my wife is a good co-pilot, reminding me to obey traffic laws here.
But generally speaking, I only abide by laws that make sense. The books are thick with simply stupid shit and I can’t be a part of the madness.
Like it has been said, there are laws and there are rules, rules of decency if you will. I stick with my moral compass. Not man’s law.
