BS Parking Ticket.

Yep. I fight SFMTA tics on two principles.

All-in for BS tickets.

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Any one of these overpaid city employees can pick up a broom if they wish.

What do you do and how much do you earn?

The city isn't suddenly trying to balance the budget on parking tickets. SF has pretty much been enforcement-crazy for as long as I can remember. Chances are OP's car looked like it hadn't moved, and since none of us know what method was used to calculate the amount of time it was parked, we cannot make educated statements about it.

If OP did indeed move his/her car, then the ticket is wrong. If not, then it's right. At least OP has receipts to show that (s)he had been elsewhere during the time in question.

Fighting a ticket because you don't like what people are being paid is like tilting a joust at windmills. There are far more constructive and productive ways to make your point. Besides, if a car was parked in a motorcycle spot you'd be complaining that the DPT wasn't there fast enough and didn't give the car a ticket. You can't have you cake and eat it too. Imagine for a second how parking in SF would be if they didn't enforce the laws.

update for you all.
"The San Francisco Transporation Code 1002 (formerly TC64) states "any vehicle moved a distance of not more than one block during the limited period shall be deemed to have remained stationary." If you leave a restricted area and later return to it, you are advised to park in a different block to avoid being cited for overtime parking"

Keyword there being advised.
Lost the fight, i went ahead and mailed another for "mail hearing"

My parked car was rammed, and pushed onto the sidewalk and partially into a red zone.

Photos of the bumper and wheel-cover damage, and copies of the (self-filed, of course) police report, were not sufficient to deter SF DPT.

BTW you can't just drive around the block and park back in the same spot again, you have to move it at least 1/10th of a mile away from the original spot. In other words, park it at least a block away.

update.
i lost the initial review and I appealed it. The appeal board said they will excuse this and refunded my fine, but said next time to park on a different block.

Drivers in San Francisco beware: the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which runs the city's transit and parking operations, is looking to increase issuing the number of parking citations issued, officials announced Monday.

The reason? To help close a projected $21 million deficit in the $775 million operating budget for the current fiscal year that ends June 30.

I mean really. Does it take that many folks in the Muni agency to run it as fucked up as it is or is that many people the reason it is fucked up in the first place? :confused

But if snorky lives there, he could have also paid for the residential permit.
These municipal guys are overpaid. So are some other people, too.

1) I agree he should pay for the permit.

2)I'm not stating that they are overpaid, just questioning is there really a need for THAT many positions for that outfit?

It's all fucked up! :rofl

How do they tell? They mark your tire with Chalk, and then come back roughly 4 hours later.

Car is still there and their mark is there? as far as they are concerned it didn't move. You get a ticket.

receipts shouldn't void the ticket, how do you prove you took your car to those places?

I'm not sure what type of chalk is used but is there a possibility that the chalk may still show after the car is driven?

I think a great idea would be to document vehicles illegally parked or pending citations by taking photographs. At my security job we are given a digital camera issued by the company to take photographs of rear plate, close-up of warning sticker, general area and any obvious damage before we get it towed. I think using the camera idea would avoid many misconceptions between parking enforcement and citizens.

OP, its great to hear you got a refund. You were in a crap situation and glad it worked out in your favor in the end. Speaking of DPT, there is a interesting youtube segment by Stanley Roberts (Kron 4 News) on San Francisco DPT. ;)

Yep. I fight SFMTA tics on two principles.

All-in for BS tickets.

Extract time and effort from them because I don't like the idea of the city trying to balance the budget through things like parking tickets.

Here's why (this is just the 135 SFMTA 100K+ earners in 2007):

ahem...

Instead of complaining about people who make decent salary, why don't you get a better job, or join a union, and bargain for a decent wage.

Then you might be able to get your personal property (automobile) off of the public street (into a privately owned garage) that the entire state/city pay taxes to build and maintain.

Just a thought.

I got a parking citation for parking my mini van backwards on low traffic residential street near Napa. It was a scorching day, my boy was sleeping and I had the car turned around to get some shade. Took him inside after he woke up and left the car there for 1.5 hours. Came out and bam. I can understand if this was on the El Camino or Stevens Creek but on a tucked away suburb street on Sunday 12-2pm?

The ticket didn't have a legible license or vehicle number but I wrote to ask for leniency citing it was a legal parking spot, not blocking or interfering with traffic, driveways for sidewalks. I didn't leave an address, only a name and email on my dispute.

5 weeks later, I get an email with attachments stating I admitted guilt and need to pay. Screw these fools, I'll pay the $25 late fee out of principle to see how they're going collect. They can't pin it to a vehicle so DMV won't be able to help them.

Generally if you can't re-park in the same block it's because they use cameras mounted on the scooters that record license plates and map them to GPS positions. That's why you can't leave and come back an hour later and park in the same spot. There's no chalk any longer.

Not the area you are talking about, but here's a nice page about how the system works. http://www.monterey.org/parking/autofind.html

The buggies equipped with an AutoVu also alert on scofflaws with five or more tickets and they can be programed to alert on stolen vehicles.

I was in Oakland and saw many cars with red flashing lights on the meters. I saw the meter made coming so I put a quarter in many of the meters. Sticking it to the man. It cost a couple of dollars but I felt strangely happy afterwards. $2 to me equals $320 out of their pension plans.

Let's start a movement. See a meter running low, drop a quarter in. It's illegal which shows you how much of a bunch of crooks parking enforecement really are.

Sounds like you're doing a good deed, 87cr250r. But if any of those vehicles were ticketed for overstaying the allotted parking time -- and Oakland, like San Francisco, has a municipal code that prohibits the extension of parking time by meter feeding -- would you have offered to pay the drivers' fines?

The whole point of parking meters is not to shake down motorists, but to encourage turnover.

:rofl if you think the $320 "pays their pension" :rofl

you're just taking money away from other state and municipal resources
