Budget moto cam recommendation? Mainly for protection against irresponsible folks

I would like a new moto dash cam. My 5 year old $50 cam is done. The quality wasn't great but it was OK for a $50 moto dash cam when I bought it several years ago. However, the video quality and sound are pretty bad now so time to upgrade. Looking for something that's good bang for the buck say around $100-200.

Here's a recent video clip, it's not OK anymore, just poor quality now:

As previously stated in another thread, the dash cam in my car is not that good anymore either so I just replaced it with this one for about $80 and I'm impressed so far in regards to the bang for the buck factor. Great video and sound quality for $80 IMO.

The main reason is for protection against others that refused to take responsibility for their actions/decisions and yes it has saved me in the past. I was involved in an accident years ago. The other party and her insurance company didn't want to take responsibility so my insurance company just sent them the video clip and viola, they suddenly took 100% responsibility. The other party couldn't lie her way out of that kind of evidence.

Doesn't have to be the best quality but should be good enough to protect me when needed.

Thanks!

I am contemplating this one. Simple to install, front & rear cameras, decent reviews, on sale, maybe more on sale on Black friday.

I just installed the INNOVV K7 recently. I guess I like it? I have nothing to compare it to. It’s my first dashcam.

The K6, as I understand it, is slightly easier to install because there’s no separate DVR (the DVR is part of the front camera). The K7 has a separate DVR that you stick somewhere mid-bike like under the seat.

I dunno, if it can't read the plate of that truck in the above photo, it's probably not good enough.

Yup, that's why I'm looking for a better replacement moto dash cam. The quality used to be steadier and was able to read plates but after years of use, no more. It only cost me $50 so no big loss.

I just wanna know more about those little bikes you were passing. :laughing

Seems like they are everywhere now...:D

The unfortunate part is these guys are not little kids that don't know any better. They are grown men in their 20s and 30s from what I've seen. Just gotta keep my eyes open for them so I don't accidently run them over.

Yep. Good cheap protections against those that will lie through their teeth instead of taking responsibility. It protected me when needed so I will continue to have one. It's unfortunate that we even need it but it is what it is with some societal members.

Speaking of Black Friday, it's around the corner so I may wait for it too. Not looking for anything too fancy, just as long as it's good enough for my protection.

Cool, thanks for sharing!

Groms (and the like) have achieved near cult status where I am.
Large herds, or flocks or whatever dafuq you'd call them, surge past my work with some degree of frequency.
And yes, all ridden by twenty-somethings and all have the same $10k of useless modifications draped all over them.

So for those that run these, do you just swap out the card each day? Hit the "erase button" each day? How are you using them day to day.

I think most overwrite when the card gets full. Some have an “impact “ save fave feature.
I want one only for the accident scenario described previously.

Yes, they do what I think is called “loop recording”.

The way the INNOVV stuff works (I assume they’re all the same) is, you stick an sd card in them. When the bike is turned on (via sensing the accessory power domain go high), it wakes up and starts recording, in 1 minute (configurable, but this was my default) chunks. Files are time stamped and marked front or back.

When the sd card fills up, it will then start deleting old files to reclaim space.

On mine, there is also a “save” folder where you can press a button on a remote, or the system via accelerometers thinks there is an exceptional condition, and it puts files in there instead/also. Those files will never be deleted unless you explicitly go in and delete them.

You can pull the sd card and browse the files on any computer…it’s just formatted fat32 or whatever. For INNOVV there is also a mobile app where you can view videos, so you don’t have to take the sd card out.
