Buy or Rent a House - Today's Market

I do not live in the SF bay area. The wife and I no longer enjoyed the morass of humanity it's becoming and have moved to SLO county.

I've even forgotten how to lane split. :ride

Ah…Congrats. Lots of beautiful country down there. Still pretty damn expensive though isn't it?

Thanks!

Like all places it varies-you can buy a three bedroom/one bath place for about 350k-the schools and area are good. There aren't a ton of high paying jobs. One doesn't need them so much if they're mortgage isn't 3-4k/month.

Moving from the bay area one could do very well for themselves.

For maybe 4 months total, at the most. And even then, there are plenty of days within those 4 months where they COULD ride, if they WANTED to.

Honestly, great weather isn't why prices are so high here. It's because there's so many top-notch employers here, who pay well and hire from good schools.

Four months. A third of the year......you forgot to mention that it can rain almost anytime the rest of the year and the hot muggy days when it's too "hot" to go out..

There's a reason housing is cheap in Ohio.:rolleyes

It's all relative, I go to the bay area now and complain about the humidity believe it or not :laughing . It's dry as fuck where I live though so that's to be expected. Just because you can't ride for 4 months doesn't mean you can't ride. Ever been snow mobiling? People find shit to do in places with "nothing to do" . It's not that complicated or depressing as a lot of people try to make it seem. Course they'd know this if they ever got away.

With a budget of $500K. Know it's probably a stretch in the current market, but where are the decent, working class neighborhoods in the East Bay?

There is some good stuff here in Hayward within that price range but you have to know the couple of places to avoid. For instance don't bother with anything off of Tenyson Rd between 880 and Mission.
