Buying ducati WITHOUT red key and code card

Your in SF. DesmotoSport..! Nothing else..! 415-552-7729

And don't expect much from the Ducati Monster forum. It's just a click of about 12 guys and gals and most of them ride scooters..! :rolleyes

:orly

:superhawk

so if i slap in a new ECU, i won't need programmed keys?

Seriously, unless someone here has done just that, I'd ask a technician. That's why I keep suggesting ones further away. In my twisted way of thinking they know they're not going to get any business out of it so you may get a straight up honest answer. I have no idea if swapping the ECU will mean you no longer need the red key.

I can say that I swapped ECU's without needing to do anything to my keys.
I do have my red key but have never needed it.

You will want to have the TPS reset and some other stuff done (can't remember now) I think it's the CO2 settings. Even the stealership can do that for a reasonable amt. Cost me something like $125 or something.

The bike didn't run very well with just the chip and cans. It ran REALLY poorly with just the cans. About 30 degrees hotter!

The 695's have a horrible flat spot right near 3500 rpms (if I remember) and B/C of the often long clutch travel are known for stalling and lumpy getaways. The pipes/ECU fixed all that.

+ if you do get ur duck on and decide you don't need that beer tray to hold up the license plate and generally F up the things looks, this one is good. Went on mine no problem, other than working up the nerve to hacksaw my bikes frame....

Good luck!

Spelling word for today: clique

The above should read "don't expect much from http://www.ducatimonster.org/".

That's because all of the good people bailed out and formed http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/ the day after it all got wrecked by that Canadian company that purchased and wrecked so many other motorcycle forums. There are more than 12 knowledgeable people just in the local Ducati MOB (Monsters Of the Bay) group, and many, many more in the other forums.

As for the red key issue, I would knock about $1000 off of the price of any Ducati missing that critical part. There is no excuse for losing such an important part of the bike.

Who gives a shit..! "Click" or "clique..." I've never liked groupies..! Most Ducati owners are a bunch of self-absorbed, stuck-up, hollier than thou, Italian wannabes, who don't know how to say hello, wave, or stop to help somebody in need. That's why they get so much shit on barf..! Thanks, but no thanks..! :hand

Your experience with Ducati owners is very different from what I've experienced. One of them must have really offended you and you've never gotten over it, or something.

Haters gonna hate!

OP, u sure you want to get painted with that same ducatisti brush?

All I can say is that mechanical music of the v twin and Desmo valve train is worth the price of admission right there.

Stone age tech or not.

Really a clueless statement. I'm guessing you don't actually get out and meet to many of them in real life.

Back on topic, OP, I wouldn't buy a Duc without the code card, but that's just me.

thanks everyone
i asked the seller to at least lower the price since one of the most important thing to the bike is missing, and he didn't want to lower it. so that broke the deal for me.
thanks everyone for the advice

You know the difference between my statement and yours..? I can at least get three good Ducati mechanics to agree with me..! :twofinger

I think most mechanics usually hate their clients for any brand. We're always bringing them our problems!

Not my mechanics. My mechanics love me and go above and beyond for my bikes..! Before I ever even bring my bike to them, I make sure my bike is washed and super clean..! And after the work is all done, I bring in a case of HB, Spaten or Peroni... That's a good mechanic/client relationship..! ;)

Sheeeeit, you know how to work it! Come to think of it, I did bring one of mine a big ol bottle of Bombay Sapphire. I think he may be in need of a re-charge, since he's had my Land Rover for over 6 weeks.

My bad, I didn't realize you had hard evidence like second hand, mechanics opinions... Gotta be true.

I'd knock off $2k or $3k before I'd buy a duc without the red key, but I'm a cheap like that.
