California becomes first US state to set efficiency rules for replacement tires

Does this mean BMW owners would be required to keep buying those shitty rock-hard run-flat tires :laughing

Dunno....
I may not be popular here, but....
It's okay by me if they enforce the laws that are already on the books.
Splitting lanes between two Bro-Dozers running the "open wheel" look is nothing but treacherous.
The difference there??
What I'm doing is legal. What they're doing is not.
We don't need more laws....just less selfish apathy.

I told my wife 25+ years ago tire and brake restrictions were going to be a thing in the future. The regulated brakes a couple years back, and here we are in the beginning states with tires. $78 saving over 4 years, but we all know the CA only CARB approved tires will cost double by the time its done!

The link goes on to say that the proposal will have folks replacing tires twice as often!

Not in my case, but in general.

Tires currently on my Miata likely will be toast at 5000 miles. :laughing

Fuel economy drops with new tires too, so maybe we will be required to buy "already broken in" tires to sweeten the deal?

+1 and so many others. CA is really trying to make me hate it. I mean the people that run it actually. 🖕🏻
They are trying to take away my ability in future to replace my gas insert fireplace and "wood stove" after essentially forcing me to get rid of the actual wood burning fireplace functionality in the first place.

Yes, I have solar, but I don't want an electric fireplace insert.

What about the poor people trying to build a house off grid and wood heat cannot be primary? OK, we don't have power, so what can you do to comply? Install an electric minisplit and run it off of a generator! W-T-F?

I so love living in far northern CA in regards to geography, but I can't see staying here beyond our working time. It's just getting too expensive and difficult for those who want to live free in the outdoors.

Our new found tire smuggler! Can you score me a gas weedeater while you are at it?
I don’t know nothing ‘bout nothing nor would I be responsible for what’s in the back of the Jetta when I have you replace her boingers. :gsxrgrl

Looking up commissioner's bios and they all look like highly educated in POLICY bureaucrats. I refer to these people as "children with clipboards" full of ideas with no practical experience but enough salary to separate them from any kind of the reality in which most of us live.

I was gonna say, what's to stop me from buying tires out of state? Even since I've been riding, I buy almost all my tires from shops that aren't local because local shops just don't have what I want.

They can fuck right off with that ridiculous idea.

There's an electing coming up....just saying!

i didn't read the whole article but doesn't this effectively ban brodozer conversions because of non-stock tire sizes

I think it's just a tire hardness standard. No gummies, essentially. Under 15K units sold: A-ok from what I've read so far.

:wave

Hi from Oregon.

You guys are like 10 second from the same thing....

Ohhhhh, but portable genies were banned too. Idiocracy has arrived FINALLY.

Hi from Nevada.

No sales tax versus no income tax🤔

I will confess to have bought a set of tires in Oregon, only because I was visiting a certain rider.
I recall the aftermarket exhaust fines from a few years back. I think commercial trucks are required to run “efficient “ tires. Hopefully the state will develop a tire testing bureaucracy and add tires to the anal inspection.

So....MBA graduates?

A couple PhDs in “policy.”
