We'll meet at the Almaden Center (6469 Almaden Expy, SJ 95120) Safeway and Starbuck's Parking Lot in San Jose at 0815 . There's food, gasoline and coffee at this location. Please have your bike ready by having fuel and attendent mechanical conditions ready for a 2 ½ hour ride. The rider briefing will be at 0845 with kickstands up at 0850 or so. We'll head south on Almaden to McKean Rd/G8 to 152-Hecker Pass Rd and other roads(details and turn-by-turn to follow) that get us to the east of Hwy 101.We'll be skirting Gilroy and Hollister using backroads that put us in the town of Tres Pinos, CA and Junction of Quien Sabe Rd & Hwy 25-the Airline Highway. We'll be riding Hwy 25 south to the Junction of Coalinga-Los Gatos Creek Road. This route is scenic and rural through Paicines, past The Pinnacles National Park (home of the California Condor conservation and repopulation project) into the Hernandez Valley and passing by Clear Creek Wilderness, Condon Peak Recreation area and climbing, descending and meandering past countless ranches, canyons, wilderness areas, farms and mountains. Wildlife and livestock abound, so keep your eyes open! We'll arrive in the northwestern part of Coalinga onto S Derrick Avenue-Jayne Ave and into Coalinga onto W Polk St and Hwy 198 where we'll have lunch at the family run Perko's/Cafe 101 Diner.(101 W Polk St, Coalinga, CA 93210-ph
This is the end of the ride, but returning to San Jose and points north via Hwy 198 to Hwy 25 is another extremely fun ride that winds pass very scenic areas and there are several routes to return based on what kind of return route you need or want. We'll talk about it over lunch!
